I fluffed up a chunk of steel wool, sprinkled it with gunpowder, lit it and took the shot. These were shot in the dark. Please don't try this at home, as I am highly skilled in idiocy. Tim
You can get the same effect using a car battery connected to steel wool.
Wow. These are gorgeous. Creative insanity, or insane creativity. :-) The things we do to get a photograph. I recently moved into a new rental home. Have not yet met the neighbors, but have been out in both the front and back yard lying on my back, belly and side, taking photos. The neighbors may be puzzled.

PM. answer ( exif on shot #6)
Neat shots! I know some people that are crazy enough to copy what you did. A few are firefighters and a few are cops. You'd be surprised what they would do on a day off for something to do.
Nice shots. Thanks for being an idiot.

From matches to steel wool and gunpowder... What's next? Should I be relieved that you're quite a few states away? ;)
I might like to try to photograph steel wool burning (of course taking necessary safety precautions before and during). Was thinking of sprinkling something less explosive than gun powder on it that might add to the visual interest. Possibilities that come to mind: a little of any of the following: salt, the powder of various spices, ground-up incense. If anyone else has any other ideas, I welcome them.

No your safe, Just wanted try something different other than the spinning of steel wool. The gunpowder was from my muzzle loaders. what's next...I'm thinking electricty sparks.
