Windows 10 Blue Screen.....

Anyone having a Windows 10 blue screen problem? IMO, Windows 10 is a clunker. I haven't had a problem on my old, dying Toshiba which I upgraded from Windows 8 the end of last July. But when buying a new PC a couple of weeks ago, I found I was getting a blue screen periodically with the message that there was a driver problem, and gave some information on it. Tech support online and at Staples couldn't fix it. So, I exchanged it for a different brand of computer with the same processor, etc. Yep! Blue screen there too! I returned that and had my old, failing computer gone over so I could use it a little longer.

Then,. I bought a Macbook Pro! Nothing like jumping from the frying pan into the fire because of having to learn a different operating system. At least there's no blue screen!

I purchased a new laptop with W10. Hate it! Called to see if they would let me download W8. Answer: cannot revert to W8. On a new PC if it contains W10 then you cannot install any older version! Vendor also would not replace PC because it is now considered used. Love the PC hate10.

I'm sorry you couldn't return the PC.

You can put Windows 7 on it by reformatting the hard drive and do a clean 7 install. Then you can update to 8.1 (if you can find it).

However, if you put 7 on it and than do the upgrade to 10, you will likely not have a problem. The problem that both you and the OP experienced was likely due to the Original OEM Crapware from the manufacturer.

If you do a clean install of 7, and then the free upgrade to 10, you will likely feel better about the experience.

I am on upgrade to 10 on over a dozen machines. I have done the clean 7, upgrade to 10 on laptops because the 7 that's OEM on laptops has been tweaked by the manufacturer originally and this is their fault. I have had no problems, otherwise on any of the machines. You need to be aware that ALL versions of 7 are modified slightly by the people who load them on their machines.

Get rid of the OEM Crapware listed in the OEM name... You never needed it in the first place. Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 can handle clean installs on most computers.

If the OEM people would just install Windows the way it was written, all would be well in the PC universe.

Oh, and for your information, Windows 10 running clean on a MACBOOK runs the hardware faster and cleaner, even though you paid 40% more for the same hardware in a PC.

You are both dealing with problems that have a simple solution.

25 years teaching and servicing Microsoft Windows since Version 1 in 1991.

Windows 10 is the best yet. It just needs to overlay a good base of Windows previous versions... not the stuff modified by HP, Dell, Toshiba or others for their computers. Their software tweaks and OEM is getting in your way. Strip them down and they are all the same hardware that millions of users are NOT having problems with.

PC came with W10. I can't go back to something I never had in the first place.
I always liked W7. FYI PC is a Dell.

You can buy Windows 7 from most techs if you pay for it and have it put on. I have reformatted vast numbers of laptops and put other operating systems on them. The good news on Windows 7 is that it contains most drivers to run all the hardware currently in most computers up to 7-8 years old.

How big is the community you live in and approximately how old is your DELL.... processor and RAM and hard drive?

Don't give up so easily. You simply should try to find a good computer tech in your community with a good REP.

I was an On-Site Dell Tech for five years in my local three counties in Oregon. I put all kinds of O/S systems on them, including Linux.

The dozen computers I have put 10 on have been a hodge podge of old desktops and laptops that I have put Windows 10 on. Four of them have been DELLs. Most of them, I formatted, loaded 7 on and then upgraded to 10.

The people who are telling your what you are hearing simply don't want the biz, or are ignoramus's acting as computer techs.

I've been doing this 25 years and have met few computers I can't master.

Yes, Windows 7 will cost some money, but then Windows 10 will be free if you do the upgrade before the end of July 2016.

Ask around for a reputable computer repair/tech person. Or a smart motivated 14 year old in your neighborhood.

PC is latest model Dell Inspiron 5000 series. My daughter is an IT specialist manager. I'll run your helpful message for her to read. Perhaps she will be able to come up with W7. Thank you so much for your expertise.

The DELL 5000 Laptops are very recent and came in a number of screen and processor configurations. Yours may be equipped with an Intel i3, i5 or i7. they have a high maximum RAM capacity and used large hard drives, so am assuming this is a fairly recent laptop, screen size 15.6 or 17 inch.

In any event, the computer may have come with Windows 8, but it was around in similar configurations as Windows 7.

That said, and without more specific information, I'd say the computer would easily load up Windows 7 OEM (The way it comes from Windows... not from DELL) and then upgrade to 10 unless you want to stay with Windows 7.

Windows 7 will be supported at an updates level until 2020, although Microsoft is certainly doing all they can to encourage the update to 10.

I have a two year old 17 Toshiba running 10 like a swiss watch, and two three year old DELL Inspirons running 10 with NO problems.

If you would like more information here, you are welcome to PM me.

I am sorry you are having trouble. I downloaded 10 when it first came out and have had wonderful luck with it. This is on my older HP desk computer.

All of the 8 PC's in my home have Win 10 installed on them, so far I not had a single problem with any of them.
If I wanted to revert to an earlier OS I have all of installation discs right back to Windows ME.
They are all genuine complete with activation codes.

Did you consider that the individual machine might be defective? I don't think your condemnation of Win10 is supported.

I purchased a new Dell W10 machine last Aug. I like it except for Edge and the mail apps. Downloaded IE11 and mail from the internet and everything is good. Cannot understand why you were getting bluescreens other than defective machines.

Yes, computers can be extremely frustrating. You wonder why, after all these years, they can't make them work.

Moving to the Mac was smart. I use both Mac and Windows, and there is some learning involved, but I have never had a Mac lockup or freeze on me. Take a look at the videos on lynda.com. For $25/month, you have access to thousands of videos on lots of topics.
