jpeg files saved in PS are way too small

I'm working on creating an album and a file I just printed as a gorgeous 13x13 before I put it on a page background is now only saveable as a max of less than 1MB (878K). Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

No, but did you take the photograph of your avatar? It's awesome!

Did it get downsized when you placed it as a background? If you input it as a screen background, it might have automatically downsized for web...

Sounds like you inserted a thumbnail only

Not enough info in your description to troubleshoot

I just realized what I did. I had two folders - one low res to post on my website to organize the files for the book because I can just click and drag to re-order. When I was creating the pages I grabbed one of those files. I'm still surprised that it ended up being smaller AFTER adding to a white background. I guess it's because it was a re-opened jpeg reduced just slightly to fit a 5x5 page.

I KNEW I hadn't opened a thumbnail but your reply got me re-thinking. Thanks, tsilva.

When saving photos in LR, be careful to specify the format of the exported photos. Sounds like you let the default setting take over...

No, I'm very careful when exporting but drew from the wrong folder. Thanks for jumping in. See my explanation further up the thread if you choose.

Which is why I label the folders with the name of the format I am saving in, PNG for that lossless format, JPG for crunched phtos, etc.

I'm not an expert with PS or PSE but I know that when I save an image, a pop up window asks what quality(?) you want to save it as. I always push it to max (12). Maybe you changed that setting needing a smaller size for some reason, and never reset it for the next image.

Thanks, Indi and Revhen. I'm good now. I made a stupid mistake but I figured it out.
