I get a kick out of all this grumbling by some who go on complaining about how much 'spying' Microsoft is doing via Windows 10, but don't hesitate to get on FaceBook or other social sites and air all their dirty laundry or devulge location, etc. :)
It might be wise, considering how 'open to most' the Internet is, to NOT post anything on it that you might be ashamed of or don't want known by others. There is still the telephone and U.S. Mail for really private stuff. Just an observation... you don't need to respond, cause then I'd be tempted to argue :)
(Not really - I don't argue). Oh, Merry Christmas.

Argue away.

I use facebook, have maybe 12 friends in it, erase all posts monthly and never post anything 'important'. I have a dormant Google + account (4 folks in there). Both are closed to the public but of course not the prying eyes, one has to realize that.

I do not use any other social media.

I do not have a cell phone*. I do not have a land line.

I do have a VOIP phone.

Ah, oh, I run my own WEB sites (e-mail, forum, WEB site and travel safe keeping) on someone else server.

YES I make a fuss over privacy issues on internet as well as Windows 10.

Don't like it?

Bite me, or argue with your keyboard same delusional result.

----
* I have a trackphone with me only when I travel and on the road. I use when I stop...
1) to let my wife know where I am for the night.
2) in case of emergency (one time in five years - Got stranded in a sandy road)

Joe, it's one thing to voluntarily give out information about oneself, whether it is the judicious thing to do or not.

It's a completely other thing to have an operating system collecting information and providing it to the corporation who designed it, or divulging it to a third party, without the operator's permission or knowledge.

Worse yet, selling that information to a third party and making money off the person using the computer without compensation.

Sorry, telephone, mail for private stuff? Surely you jest! In this brave new world there are only relative degrees of privacy. Social media, careless computer use, likely worse. Short of limiting interactions to face to face contacts with folks you know, little choice.
A touch of Orwell's 1984
"It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself – anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face (to look incredulous when a victory was announced, for example) was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: facecrime, it was called." (1.5.65)

One doesn't need an email, a website or to belong to any social media to be "found". I'm often surprised how much information is "out there".

General Chit-Chat would probably be a good place to post this.

That is correct.

I was curious one day about a UHH user and found approximately where he lived using the crumbs given on UHH. (Clues lied in pictures taken from his window...)

I basically yelled at another after he unwittingly published information that allowed me to give him a google view of his home. To say he was shocked was an understatement.

Remember that this a 'social media' and everything published here becomes part of that 'information age'.

I've said it before: get educated regarding what is referred to as "Big Data." Google it and try to digest the concept of countless data bases consisting of countless sources. Many have access to often more information about us than we ourselves know. The government uses it.

I dropped out of face book because I thought it was nonsense with people posting stupid stuff.

There are a ton of switches in Win 10 that can be turned off if privacy is a priority.

And they do not cover the real problem...

These switches are cosmetic.

Watch this but before applying his solutions do a small test...

Boot your PC as you normally would. Use it w/o accessing Internet but let the computer be connected. After an hour, open 'network and sharing center'. Write down the network activity information.

Now apply the solutions offered in line through the video.

Do the same test as above.

Compare the notes you have written down...

It's impossible to remain "off the radar" these days. MS and Facebook are just the tip of the iceberg.

Which is why I use misinformation as much as I can.

I know I'm out there. But I also know much of the information is false, misleading or contradictory, and I like it that way.
