Interesting that you introduced yourself today. It's the 50th anniversary of the landmark supreme court ruling of Tinker vs the board of education which ruled that Mary Beth Tinker had a constitutional right to free speech by wearing a black armband to school in protest of the Vietnam war. I believe that case also spawned the phrase "not giving a tinkers damn".

How did you just happen to know that Walt?
Not worth/giving a tinker's dam is old and comes from England, a variation is Not worth a tinker's cuss.
A tinker was a traveling metal worker/tin smith who went around making a living repairing pots and pans that had leaks or cracks.
A "tinker's dam" was a temporary patch made of clay, mud or even dough. Therefore not worth much. As to the "tinker's cuss" well he was a traveling craftsman and therefore if he cussed you it didn't count for much as he would be gone soon.
Welcome to the Hog, Tinker.
Welcome aboard, Tinker. Lots of great people and information here. Looking forward to hearing more from you. ;)
