A varied selection today, I think.
The triceratops tooth is one of my favourites. The kids on the bus love it, too! It is part of a real dinosaur which people have heard of... The teeth are rather strange, actually. The main bit here is (I think!) more of the root. There is another angle on this sample which shows the actual biting surface of a tooth, which I will post later.
The Malachite 'needles' really do look like satin in this example.
The meteorite was my first example. It is part of the Campo del Cielo fall, which occurred in Argentina some 10,000 years ago. It must have been a massive event when it came in, presumably exploding high up. There are many, many pieces of this item available for sale. It's probably a good job it *did* explode high up, since it is very dense nickel-iron. This sample weighs probably half a pound or so. If the whole item had hit the surface, there would have been a spectacular crater, and it would have been a bad day for any life in the area.
I actually won another small sample from this same meteorite a couple of years ago, from Astronomy magazine!
For those who are following the discussion, yesterday's post showed up in the upcoming topics group, and (for I think the first time I have seen) it is listed in the Close-up group this morning. This post was listed immediately in the upcoming topics. I have so rarely seen my own posts listed...

These are really neat and well photographed. I haven't commented on your earlier posts but I have been looking at them and enjoying them. Last year we were at the Smithsonian and saw many very unique minerals, fossils, etc. but your collection seems to be every bit as interesting!

I'm looking forward to seeing the biting surface of that dino tooth. I'm glad you finally were able to see your posts listed, because they certainly deserve to be seen.
