The other day, I needed to go to the emergency room.

You think you are joking.
A friend of mine, many years ago, invited his neighbor who was a Border Patrol admin type in LA to speak for "Career Day" at our school.
His buddy having worked in a suit and tie for years was proud of the fact that his uniform still fit. So he appeared for career day in his Border Patrol Uniform and gear. When he walked into my friend's classroom three boys went out the windows. Good thing it was a first floor room.
In my room two LAPD cops who drove the "school car" and patrolled the area around the school came to speak and one boy made it halfway out the window before he realized that they were yelling that they weren't after him, all his warrants had been cleared. He did ask if it was OK for him to sit in a chair by the open window since he really needed some fresh air after his scare.
