Not sure what the subject is? The foreground stuff needs to go! Looks like an old Larsen, good boat...

MJPD; For what it's worth, I'd have cropped it going the other way; down rather than up. You have a boat and water telling the picture's story; you don't need hazy sky. I'd have cut all the background houses out, putting the top at the roofline of the little shed directly above the boat. There are lifting arms (davits?) in the picture already, and having a larger one repeat itself in the foreground gives depth and continuation to the shot. There's no relationship between the boat and water with the foggy background. It kinda distracts. But, to me, more water is part of the boat's story. Thanks for being brave enough to put it out there. Keep shooting...

It can use cropping to make it more interesting, but I disagree with both MJPD and RonnWinn. Just a bit off the top (leave a bit of blank sky above the mast), and crop the bottom to a little below the dark line of water that's below and to the left of the rope loop.

Interesting ...
Shows to go you that there are always several ways to look at a photograph and no two people will see the same thing. What's good about this particular shot is that there are, in fact, several ways to get the creative mind working, and make something of it in the process. The raw material is there, it just depends on how someone could use it.
Would like to read other opinions of the cropping topic.
That's really the essence of this forum. Its a great place to observe and learn.
Thanks,

If you say OK, I can post a cropped version the way I described. I don't want to hijack your posting.

Cropped per earlier discussion. No other changes. None needed, in my opinion. It really is a nice shot. Your thoughts?
