I am considering a new laptop and one of the questions I posed recently to On 1 customer service was "How compatible are Intel graphic cards with the On 1 software?" The answer was that Intel is not compatible.

I was wondering how many of you UHH members are having problems with the software because you have the Intel cards? Should not On 1 be straight up with their customers and let the consumer know that there will be problems?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

That is correct. I tried ON 1 on my nephews laptop with the Intel Graphics Card and it would not work.

On1 is no different than Topaz Labs or any other producer of graphics enhancements. I don't know the particulars of the Intel Graphics card because that brand name is "usually" associated with the computer's core processor. The newer graphics programs require something called "Open GL" and it may be that Intel doesn't have it. Since there are probably at least hundreds of different graphics cards on the market, it is certainly NOT the responsibility of On1 (or any other company) to test their software against every different model.

I have On1's Perfect Effects 9.5 and Perfect Layers 9 both run with no problems on my HP laptop with Intel Graphics plus an Nvidia Graphics card and 16gb of memory.
My home built PC has graphics built into the motherboard (Yes I know - cheap) but I had to increase the RAM to 16gb to run the programs, without problems, on my PC. Is it possible that you also need more memory? No offence, just asking.

Thanks Bob for your reply. What you say makes perfectly good sense. Whether it is HP, Toshiba and others, they all seem to handle Intel cards in their laptops......that seems odd to me. Just saying........ Now my next question is....."How easy is it to install a compatible graphics card in a laptop....any idea?"

Intel graphics is not a discreet graphics card with it's own memory. It is a cheap and dirty way to provide some graphics capability for low end systems without having to resort to a separate card. Intel graphics is fine for simple needs - but not if you are gaming, video streaming and photo editing. On1 is a very powerful editing system, and it does require some serious horsepower. I suspect the issue is more the shared system memory, but an ATI or NVidia card, even a relatively inexpensive one (<$100) will make a big difference, and it will run On1.

Unfortunately If your running a laptop then changing the graphics card is pretty much not an option. As in 99% of the time it just isn't possible and the 1% is just to cover the unknown.

I have On1 10 on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.5 with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB. Knock on wood, I haven't seen any issues.

His laptop is Toshiba and when we tried it, we got a message that Open GL is required. Maybe your MacBook has that where his does not. Glad yours works. I don't have a problem with with my laptop or desktop either.

MT native -

I run ON1 Photo 10 along with LR/PS CC on my Mac Mini with two monitors and everything runs just fine. As you can see, I have maxed out the Mini everywhere I could. I have an internal SSD for a boot drive and a second internal drive for all my files. But, even with the built in graphics card, I'm happy with the performance.

Open GL extensions are supported in Intel series 4xxx graphics chips, so that's why you are not having problems. Intel 1,2,3 series have no open GL support.

While I don't have windows, have you tried the MS implementation(s) of Open GL ?

This is interesting. I just returned the Lenovo laptop to Costco that I'd had for 7 weeks. It ran LR CC fine but when I loaded PS it would not work. I'm going to get a Dell that has twice as much RAM and a DVD burner and I know it had 4G graphic card but I have to go see WHAT graphics card before I order thanks to this post. Thanks so much for posting this. I have On1 10 as well on my desktop and was hoping to load that on the laptop as well. Right now it's crashing on the desktop everytime I open it but I haven't had a chance to contact On1 yet.

It has this:
4GB AMD Radeon R5 M335 Graphics

Would that be adequate for running PS CC and/or On1?

Thanks.

4GB of system RAM is not enough. Consider 16GB of system RAM as and adequate functional baseline and then choose a GPU like Nvidia's Mobile Quadro series (e.g., 3000 series) with 1 GB of dedicated GPU Ram.
