Great shots and great colorful surroundings.

Today I attended a workshop presented by the Sierra Club, L. A. Chapter - Camera Committee, one of my Meet-Up groups (http://www.meetup.com/Sierra-Club-LA-Camera-Committee/events/53305242 ), entitled "Hummingbird Photo Workshop". Here are a few of my first high ISO hummingbird photos.

Today's typical capture is hand-held Nikon D5000 at ISO 1000, with Nikkor 55-200 zoom at 200-mm, 1/4000-sec at f/8, full sun.

Any other hummingbird images out there? Please post, and include ISO, shutter duration, and aperture.

Here are just a few of mine:
With the exception of the Ruby-throated Hummer all of these are what are know to us on the East Coast as extra-limitals, meaning they are outside their usual territory.

All were taken with a Canon 7d sith a Canon 500mm f/4 lens and Canon 1.4 Teleconverter.

Gorgeous shots of those flying jewels.

I like the Black-chinned Hummingbird, male #1 shot the most.

Very Nice!! Your Images are very sharp & clear
I have been trying, one of the hummingbirds chases all the others off before they get close to my feeders or Pomegranate Tree.

Next time, I will use a longer than 200-mm lens. A-F (center spot) is quite helpful, as these birds flit flower-to-flower. I had a 300-mm and 500-mm prime lenses, but neither was A-F, and near-useless for tracking moving hummingbirds 10-feet to 20-feet away.

Great compilation of images and I cannot imagine trying to manually focus on those birds with a long prime lens as they are actually moving (as opposed to hovering) :(

I would DEFINITELY, definitely love to have the opportunity to photograph these birds.

Doug,
somewhere on this forum are images taken under what I believe was a very professional lighting set-up, can you recall those shots? :( I just wish I did as I would then post a link.

Just outstanding!
I must be confused about ISO though. I thought it was supposed to be higher ISO when in LOW light situations... not full sun!
Thank you for my something new learned today... because these are FAB!!

(I'm a card-carrying member of the Sierra Club, too. FINE organization, imo.)

I would suggest the high ISO is to compensate for that wickedly fast shutter speed :)
