Firmware D7000 question

Have any fellow Hoggers updated their firmware on a D7000?
If so did you experience any issues like loss of data or custom settings.
Was a little afraid to do it (not being a techy), but now that I also have a new D7200, I am ready. Bought the 7000 in June, 2012, so it has the original firmware.
Greatly appreciate any experiences.

I upgraded my firmware a couple years back when it wouldn't read some SD cards made by Transcend. The update went smoothly and the cards worked after that. I don't recall if I lost settings or not though...

I am planning to update my firmware on my D7100 and there is a way to save your settings onto a Scandisk and then to your computer so if anything happens you can reload them. I plan on doing that. I saw it in Darrel Young's book "Mastering the Nikon D7100". I would think it should also be found in the owner's manual.

A few months ago I sent my D7000 to Nikon for cleaning and check. They installed new firmware. I've not had any problems.
