I'm thinking about a new lens and have an interest in the Tamron 14-150

Do you have a favorite lens for your micro 4/3 if so which one and what makes you favor it besides size and weight.

I have EM1 and my daily use lens is the Pany/Leica 25mmf1.4. It provides images equal to my dispensed with Nikon gear, and is surpassed by only the Hasselblad w/ Zeiss 80mm

Second is certainly the 12-40 Pro MZuiko

Panasonic/Leica 25mm f/1.4 - more light sensitive = better low light performance, enhanced contrast, best color rendition, smoothly operating focus ring, better 'build' quality, great overall IQ.

Panasonic 20mm pancake prime, because it is the sharpest darned lens I've ever had, and the focal length works for street, casual portraits, and lots of landscape shots. it is also very cheap.

The size and weight are factors too though. Because it weighs nothing and is flat, it and my EM5 together are so negligible that I don't even know I've got em slung around my shoulder.

I hear lots of good about the 12-40 but since my legacy 12-60 works just fine, it is hard for me to part with that much money.

The Panasonic LUMIX 12-35mm f/2.8 pro zoom. If using Oly cameras, I'd look at the 12-40 Pro M Zuiko zoom that they sell.

This range is probably the most practical for wide-angle to short telephoto "rubber normal lens" photography. I like the f/2.8 fixed aperture, too.

Are two favourite lenses allowed? The two I use most often and like the best are the 12-40 and 40-150mm, both PRO lenses. I also have the 1.4x TC to use with the longer lens and like it very, very much.
OK, if I really can choose only one fave, it's be the 12-40mm. Besides the weight (sorry...), I like the ease of putting it on and taking it off the camera.
Also like the feel of the lens off the camera: It has a sturdy, solid feel.
The lens barrel is long enough that I can easily have my left hand under and around it to fine-tune composition when on camera.
Best of all, of course, I like the IQ of the photos I take with this lens/camera, well, at least of most of them, I certainly do get a number of duds as well.

When I had the EM1 the 75mm 1.8 was my best lens although I used the 12-40 2.8 more frequently. Take your pick, both are exception on M4/3.

(That's constant, not fixed aperture, but you knew that)

Used them both but own neither...yet.
Leaning toward the Olympus 12-40.

Absolutely love the 40-150.
It's on my must have list.
Olympus OMD-EM1 should be delivered tomorrow.

Yes I did know that! Thanks for the correction.

One thing about m43 format is that, while you can use any m43 lens on any m43 camera, there are certain advantages to using Panasonic and Leica lenses on Panasonic cameras, and Olympus lenses on Olympus cameras.

The Oly lenses tend to be better corrected for chromatic aberrations and such. But Panasonic corrects for CA in the camera, using the JPEG processor. (Raw images can be corrected in better post-processing software.)

Olympus lenses generally don't include image stabilization, since Oly puts that in it's cameras and calls it In-Body Image Stabilization — IBIS.

Panasonic puts Optical Image Stabilization in some of its lenses, and only a handful of its cameras have in-body stabilization (the GX7 and GX8). The GX8 can use DUAL O.I.S (lens and body).

Just a few m43 lenses are weather sealed, for use on the GH3, GH4, and similar bodies.

Here is an interesting link:

http://hazeghi.org/mft-lenses.html

It's a comprehensive list of lenses for m43 cameras.

For switchers from other brands/formats, check out MetaBones adapters and SpeedBoosters for your existing lenses. Especially for those with older, manual-focus lenses, and for those who intend to shoot lots of video, these adapters can allow use of existing optics in new and exciting ways. Using non-m43 lenses involves some limitations, but sometimes, you just want to turn off automation and control aperture and focus manually, anyway.

I think you will like the format a lot. Your Nikon full frame stuff has more resolution and performs better in low light, but it also weighs three or four times as much!

I really liked the EM5 I borrowed for a week.

I have my 12-40 pro lens on my EM-5 all the time. Just picked up the 40-150 4-5.6 and it is very nice also, light and compact. I also have the 14-42 kit lens that I have taken some great photos. The 12-40 is my favorite. If I could only have one, that would it.

I have two lenses for my OMD, my favourite is the Panasonic 20mm F1.7.
It produces superb sharp images at any aperture, my second back up lens is a Panasonic 14-45 mm which I use occasionally when I need a wider view, it also produces very high quality photos even when zoomed all the way out.
With the 20mm prime on the camera its makes a very compact set up and will go into my jacket pocket if necessary.

I like constant aperture lenses. I would get prime or 12-40pro lens. I have the EM-5. I use the kit lens 12-50mm? good for outside. I have the 40-150 and hardly use it. If interested contact me. I also have the 17mm 1.4 lens. I'd look at used lenses at B&H or KEH.
