Canon 6d

Hi, I did some shooting for a portrait session using canon 6d. I was using live view because of angle, after a number of shots I checked the card and none of the shots were recorded on card, I looked for a setting that could be wrong, nothing, so reset all settings and camera records properly now, any idea?
Thanks

Possibly dirty contacts on the card. Reseating it made the connection work again.

The 6D has no internal memory and only one card slot. If it is going to record it has to do so to the SD card. If there is no card or it is not properly communicating, the camera will tell you so. Even if you used a brand new un-formatted card, it will still record OK. All major manufactured cards are plug & play in modern DSLRs. Without looking at my manual (not sure where it is), I do seem to recall something about a test mode that will not record. If that is a fact, then that might be what caused your problem.

Edit: As MT stated, bad contacts could be the problem, but I always thought that would fall under a lack of communication, with resulting warnings from the camera. He would know better then I would though.

I think the test mode you are referring to is to allow the camera to operate without a card in it.....a sort of demo mode.

Could be. I remember reading something about it at one time but don't remember the details. Not surprising, according to my wife anyway! :-D

I’m currently shooting canon 6d with a wide variety of L lenses, I wonder if it would be worth upgrading to 6d mark 2, also have 7d and 7d mark 2, my othercameras in the immediate family include Nikon d810, d610, d7100, d200, P900.
Thanks for any advise

I had a 6D. I didn't see where the 6DII was a major upgrade, although it does have a better auto-focus system. I sold the 6D and bought a 5DIV. No regrets at all. Excellent camera. I also have a 7DII but rarely use it since getting the 5DIV. Unless you are a dedicated sports or BIF photographer, IMO, the 5DIV is superior to the 7DII. It is definitely a major step above the 6D, but, only if your budget can support it.
