UHH Slowdown

Any other photog here experiencing a slowdown due to the mini-advertising slots having to upload before the next OP entry is click-able?

Has anyone found a workaround to avoid this slowdown due to pop-ups? Or, is UHH doomed, along with the rest of the faithful among us who enjoyed this basically clutter-free site multiple times per day?

Could we be back to normal after the holidays?

It has gotten increasingly slow and quirky. It locks up on occasion and I have to walk away for a while or hard reboot. A whole bunch of strange and erratic behaviors. Thought it was my computer or internet connection.

We get UHH free. Somehow their staff needs to get paid, imbedded advertising does that. If you look at almost any free website their is advertising on either the right or left. That's also how some of these websites can sell for millions of dollars because of the popularity of their site and the advertising income they bring in.

Well, quixdraw (nice handle), I don't know what consolation it is, but you have company. DANG!

Cappy, you offer the truth so eloquently. What a shame. Unless someone offers a workaround, I guess I will cut my topics back to 2, thus avoiding the double-aggravation of watching the little spinning blue circle while the multitude of pop-ups earn the admins their money. Double-DANG!

This may help: download and install SuperAntiSpyware from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

You'll probably ne amazed by how much spyware is slowing your system down.
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition is 100% Free and will detect and remove thousands of Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, KeyLoggers, Dialers, Hi-Jackers, and Worms. SUPERAntiSpyware features many unique and powerful technologies and removes spyware threats that other applications fail to remove.

SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition does not include real-time blocking or scheduled scanning. Buy the pay for edition for that extra protection.

Another free cleanup tool is Malwarebytes.
Download from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/

If you don't have them I'll bet your system will run faster including UHH.

Nope no slowdown. Then again no advert either.

Jst remember that the advert are served by google and google does not do anything else than be a link to the real advertisers that pay google for the traffic....

So.. You (A)* > (R)** ISP (A) > (R) UHH (A) > (R) google (A)> (R) Advert (S)*** > (R) Google (S) > (R) ISP (S) > (R) You.

The weak link? Advert (S).

No idea why this is as there is no search engine involved here. Google is used a service not a search engine.

Don't know why either -- no internet / computer expert. Something is different. They don't track users -- that may help.

Tracking is done by UHH/Google... Another process altogether that involves Q/A between UHH and Google as well as your computer browser.

I use Bing, not Google. Do you think that could be the reason I'm not experiencing a slowdown?

I'm o.k. with it if it is voodoo -- not perfect, but much less annoying.

No. Web sites do not care about your search engine. They care about your cookies in order to create advertising.

Since most use google advert server it makes no difference.

What does is (sometime) the 'do not track setting' in your browser and (mostly) the killing of unwanted images using something like adblock (using a generic block) as well as the targeted killing of scripts.

Cookies are the real problem thought but that is a discussion that does not belong here.
