I Went to Arizona last month to visit an old Marine Corps buddy who I served with in Nam, and he had a feeder in his back yard. Images taken with my Canon 60D and a 70-300 f/4-5.6 on a tripod using a cable release.

Notice the bee at the feeder in the pictures as well.

Thank you Debbie. That they are. They were very active in the early morning, so I sat there with my coffee watching them. They are wonderful.

Here's some tech suggestions. Adjust the focus point to the right. Use a flash to stop action.

Thanks IC, you are right, I focused on the feeder because I didn't know what direction those beauties would come in from. However, I did get a pretty good picture of a woodpecker that stopped in that morning.

I am by no means an expert hummer shooter. But, I've had good success using an external flash with a Better Beamer on my long lenses. I could stand off 25 ft from the feeder, using a tripod and focus where the hummer most likely would appear. The Better Beamer is cheap. I've actually used it to subjects more than 100 ft away. Think about it.

Michael, nice set. Enjoyed my favorite bird and the Cactus is awesome. An aside, I have the exact same feeder.

Thanks Greg. The sunsets are spectacular there, and it helps they have the suaro (sp) in their back yard.
