Looking to see if anyone has experience with the canon SX 50vs60? I'm thinking the 50 seems better than the 60. Anyone agree or disagree? Any words of wisdom? thanks! What about low light on either of them?

I had a 50, upgraded to the 60. Liked the 50 better, but had given it to my wife and there's no going back on that.

Seems to me that the picture quality was generally better with the 50, and because the chip is smaller the camera responds faster.

Photolady, there be a ton of reviews and opinions here on UHH. Doing a quick search will provide enough information to keep your head spinning for hours. For what it's worth, I bought a refurbished SX50 for $300 before the SX60 was introduced. After using it extensively on a trip was and still am extremely pleased. You can now purchase it refurbished directly from Canon USA for $150. The refurb SX60 with slightly extended range is going for $350. For my money, it's debatable whether it's a $200 better camera. With the money leftover, you could buy a S120 to pocket!

How do I search on UHH for a specific topic? I'm really considering selling the 60 and getting the 50. I don't like taking the Canon 70d and lenses to mexico etc. How do you feel the 50 does in low light? thanks for your time!
P.S. I have friends who live on an air park in Erie!

You can click on "search" at the top of the menu at the top of the page, or you can simply google "Canon SX-50 vs Canon SX-60." You will get a ton of comparisons to read.

Canon has refurbished SX50s for 199.99 occasionally. Check the Canon store from time to time if your interested.

They have different specs, features and capabilities, yet are similar. If you read the manual and use them to their capabilities both are excellent. The SX 50 is a little lighter in weight. You can read reviews forever. Only way to really make your correct decision for you is to try them both, thoroughly. Too many people try a camera superficially and then decide it is not for them. Only your results with the two cameras should influence your decision. Lots of luck in your endeavor!

Looks like someone else covered the "search" function. As I'm reading the replies, I'm amazed how many people don't read previous comments.

As for low light, not so great especially the auto focus. Add to that marginal performance at ISOs above 800 and you get the picture. My suspicion is that the 50 and 60 are comparable in that regard, but I'm guess. I took the SX50 and a Canon G16 to Costa Rica last February. I used the SX50 for any pic requiring zoom and the G16 for almost everything else. My wife carried a Canon S100, extremely pocketable. The latest, the S120, is not in stock at Canon right now. It may be the last of the series. Bottom line, we were happy with the results. If you don't need the super zoom and money isn't factoring into the selection, the new Canon G3x looks to be an excellent choice (pricey right now, tho). This summer I took the SX50 and a 6d with 24-105mm F4 L on a Viking River Tour. It didn't take long at all to notice that the 6d got heavier each day, plus the SX50 proved invaluable catching shots of sights along the Rhine and Danube. And for $150 refurb'd, can't beat it IMHO.

We moved to Erie from Connecticut in 2011 after I retired. We're here to stay!!

Had an SX-50, gave it to a missionary friend in Africa recently when her camera died. I got it refurbed from Canon for $179 last April. Replaced it with a Nikon P600 factory refurbed by Nikon through cameta.com for $199. Better zoom range and I think it's a little better low light than SX-50. It doesn't shoot RAW, if that's important to you. Good luck in your quest.

Excuse me, Mr. PC...the Canon SX50 absolutely DOES shoot Raw images in the A, S, P and M modes, but not in Auto. [PCs like you are the reason I switched to Apple 🙄]

Thanks for all the info. By the way how did you like the Viking River Tour? We are thinking of doing one.

I think Mr. PC is saying that the Nikon doesn't shoot raw, not the SX50. Enjoy your Apple.
