CD/DVD writer, a question.

Last night I was trying to copy a DVD via DVDclone on my small LG external CD/DVD writer. The original DVD was of a programme I had recorded from the BBC and recorded on my Panasonic DVD recorder.

DVDclone read the DVD perfectly but then refused to copy it on to a vigin DVD disc.

Frustrated and thinking that the writer had finally broken, I ordered a new one. However, this morning, out of curiosity, I tried an original DVD in the writer again and it worked!!

How come? Anyone give an explanation?

some times when you "restart" your pc it "resets" your setting for the dvd/cd recorder. it happens to me to, the computer won't even read a dvd/cd and it will read it after the pc is turned off and restarted

Thanks for the reply. I did actually try that last night but it still wouldn't work. A complete mystery.

Thanks but I paid for CloneDVD that has always worked for me. I've just received the new writer and am trying it out at the moment. Amazingly, I ordered it from Amazon yesterday evening and it arrived at 15.30 today and that was not Amazon Prime.

Bad disc? Occasionally have an unusable one in a batch of new ones.

I tried two from two different batches. The chances of them both being bad are pretty low.

Probably a copy protection issue.

No. That's not possible. As I explainded, it was a programme that I had recorded myself from the BBC.

Last night I was trying to copy a DVD via DVDclone... (show quote)

I use CloneDVD2 to copy discs, and I sometimes have the same thing happen. I like to copy from E to F, but sometimes I have to go the other way. I was copying some yesterday, and I had to restart the computer. At one point, even restarting didn't help, so I had to use a different computer. Sometimes, the computer will not play the copy it's just made, but another one will, and a restart will usually get it to work.

Computers are finicky.

Thanks. This is the very first time that I have ever had this problem. The only problem I have ever had with playing a copy is that one of my CD players, a NAD, will refuse to play them but they will play on an inexpensive one that I have and also on my Yamaha CD recorder and also on my very expensive OPPO.

Yes, because I send DVDs to friends in different parts of the world.
