Hi, UHHs

I travel quite a bit and usually opt to leave tripod with gimbal head home. I have a wonderful Safrotto camera backpack but it is too small to accommodate a gimbal head. I am looking for a backpack with the following attributes. Must hold:

1) 5dxmkIII with a mounted 100-400 lens
2) 28-70mm lens
3) Speedlite
4) Nest gimbal head

and... it must fit under an airline seat.

Any suggestions? from my perspective, it it the gimbal head that throws a kink into the selection of most camera backpacks. Thanks all for the help.

Hi, UHHs br br I travel quite a bit and usually o... (show quote)

Your perspective seems to be correct. Then, why do you bother taking it? You have no lens that requires a gimbal. A good ball head is what you really need, those are comparatively smaller.

If you have a gimbal head, you are likely going to need a strong tripod. No tripod that fits with a gimbal that I am aware of will fit in a backpack under an airline seat. Even in an airline overhead compartment you are limited to 22 inches. Only the smallest travel tripods meet that criteria.

Are you going to remove the horizontal bar when you travel? I just sold my 100-400 and bought the Sigma 150-600 and I also purchased a gimbal head. I think that if I remove the horizontal bar it will fit in most backpacks. I would look at the Lowepro ProRunner BP 350 AWII. It is only 5.5" thick and 12" wide and 18" long. B & H 209.02.

Yup. Horizontal bar off. the issue really is the large footprint precluding space for my standard camera gear. Thanks for your response.

Was hoping to hear from people who have actually packed a gimbal head into a camera backpack of reasonable size.

thanks, UHHs

Acratech gp-s ball head has a Gimbal like feature. I can fit it and my tripod in my carry on suitcase.
