Let me apologize first for not having any photos at this point to use as examples. The past week not only has my leg been in the boot, my daughter is back in the hospital and the opportunities as well as time for photographing has not been available to me.

I will start out with two videos for your viewing. They explain a lot about the use of the electronic flash and how it's use can enhance your work. I will be getting some photos together to illustrate some of the techniques talked about in the videos soon. Again my apologies.

Sorry for all the troubles Bushido! I hope things improve soon!!

I have checked both of these links and they are both very good! Will work on it tomorrow night....
In the meantime, these are two pictures of my sister that we used fill flash... taken outside on a cloudy day.

You did well on these Clicker. I am sure you have already noticed that the first one is just a little soft and I can not find a point that is truly sharp, which indicates to me that the subject might have been out of the focus range of the lens. Now the second is well in focus. Can you tell me what type of speed-light you were using and what your setting were?

Oh my clicker, you and your sis look so much alike. My sister and I look a lot alike too. But I don't get to see my sis as often as I would like. We live miles apart and our work hours do not correspond at all. Hopefully, we'll be able to get together for the Holidays. HOPEFULLY!

Sorry I did not proof the previous message. I do not use flash, so will see if I can learn enough to try it. I can only learn so much at the time and the computer is stressing that capacity.

You are oh so right about #1. I didn't realize how much out of focus it was. I only have a Neewer TT560 Speedlight. It does not sync with my camera. At least I have never got it to do so. Every time I go in and try to get it to do something it says not compatible. I just use manual and keep playing until I get a half way decent picture. The flash turns both ways and has 8 power settings. Any ideas and guidance are greatly appreciated! :-)

Hope you get together with your sister! I am very lucky that we are all close together and we usually take a 3 day holiday together each summer.

Thanks, Richard for hosting. Will be a fun challenge. Watched both videos and thought they were informative. Getting late here so I'll be back tomorrow and pursue this approach more in depth. Thanks again -see all soon!

When you say sync with your camera are you referring to it not being Through The Lens compatible? When someone says "sync" to me it means that the shutter opens and the flash goes off. This speed-light is not set up for TTL, manual is the only option unless you want to use it off camera as a slave unit. I will give you some tips to help you work with manual later on in this challenge.
