This is second in a series I took back in July, making my way along the Confederate Line on Seminary Ridge, going left to right. All processing carried out within LR

The HDR did help this backlit scene. I am wondering why the photo wasn't taken with one's back to the sun. Possibly the background was not as favorable.

I was shooting with a 10mm lens, and it was difficult to keep the background 'empty' of modern stuff. For example, the roadway there is often lined with parked cars, including mine. I try to keep that stuff out of it wherever possible. Most of these are pretty much un-cropped, although I have no negative feelings about cropping where needed. Some of the later ones in the series, you can see the difference in framing between the 'normal' and HDR, as I don't do any cropping until late in the process. Some of them are also shot 'into' the sun. This was the Western edge of the battlefield, so all the cannons are pointing Eastwards.

Nice image. Big difference with HDR. On a personal note, do you really need your "photos by phil" on there? Do you think that will keep people from stealing your image? Just my pet peeve. Can't say I'd do much different with the composition. Maybe with a 10mm lens I'd have got as close as I could.

I don't for a minute think that my signature will stop anyone stealing the image. It's just that - a signature. I keep it tucked away down at the bottom, rather than across the centre where some people put their watermarks.
I do a lot of work for members of my church, which as a policy I do not charge for. I guess if someone saw their pictures and was interested in paying me to do some, I wouldn't run in the opposite direction...

I don't think my stuff is worth stealing, especially as a 1920-max jpeg, which is my standard export format. If someone feels the need, then let them have at it.

I 'steal' photos from others, which I use as rotating windows wallpaper. I don't edit them in any way, and they are stored completely apart from my stuff. I suppose that is why I chose that size for my exports, so anyone else could use my photos for that purpose...
