I shoot mainly motorsports and am looking at adding a lens. Doing research on the Tamron 150-600 and the two Sigma 150-600's.

I am mainly interested in hearing from those who have been shooting with the Sigma sports model.

thanks,
Gary

I do not own the Sigma sport lens but did rent one for 2 weeks earlier this year for two special shooting trips. In my opinion, it is a great lens. I used it on my D800 Nikon and it focused quickly and the quality of the photos was excellent. It worked well in very cold weather to warm weather. It worked well in low light and bright light. My only complaint is that it is a heavy lens and I am not able to hand-hold it with any degree of comfort. Of course, that applies to many larger lens, not just this one. Otherwise, I rate it very highly.

I have the Sigma Sport on a D610. Great lens fast focus but too heavy to hold. Works good on a monopod or gimbal and tripod. I bought mine because of the larger lens 105mm which should let in more light. I tried the Tamron and sent it back. I use it for wildlife, mostly birds. It should be good for motorsports but never tried it.

I personally own the Sport and love it. I also rent out the Sport and Tamron models and the Sport is the most popular. I sell a lot of them due to my proximity to Yellowstone Park.

I have been lucky enough to won the Sigma 150-600 Sport since it was released and am a big fan of the lens, and the dock. It is not as good, IQ wise, as my 400/2.8, but it is much lighter and far less costly. Given all factors, it really is a winner IMHO.

I was one of the first to get the Sigma Sport 600 in the US. Just Lucky I guess. It works great at air shows so I think it'd be great for you motorsports needs. This picture is untouched and shot with the 600 on my D610 at a considerable distance. I'd guess at least a mile. I was bouncing around in a boat on Lake Michigan when I took it. I did use a monopod though.

Both Sigma 150-600 lenses as well as the Tamron are f/6.3 at the long end. They should all let in the same amount of light regardless of the filter diameter.

When I first bought a camera I was told this same thing. I believe the larger the objective lens and other factors like amount of glass inside and the quality of the lens coatings all is a factor.

I purchased one about a month ago and it is a great lens. n my opinion you will not go wrong purchasing the Sigma 150-600mm Sport. Purchasing the Sigma dock also is a plus.

Yes get the dock. I have it for several art series lenses. It takes me a while to dial in the lens with the dock but its worth it. I'm now so amazed at how good these art lenses are. I also rented the 150-600 sport and the focus was off at the long end. If I'd had the dock I know it would have totally amazed me. I'd love to have this lens really liked it's autofocus speed .
