IPad2 & IOS 9.1 - Problem with web page Closing & Reopening

I have been experiencing a problem - especially on the UHH site - where the page I am viewing suddenly closes and I get an error message that "There has been a problem with this page and that it will be reopened". The last incident was today while viewing Amyj's White Egret pic in the BIF/BOW Section when I tried to DL the pic. Sometimes the page reloads quickly but usually it hangs. I have an iPad2 with 64Mb ( 30 Mb available); had the same experience on two other IOS devices running something earlier than IOS 9.0. Anyone have an idea of what is causing this?

Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill, the same event happens to my IPAD2. It's frustrating when I've come home from work and just want to enjoy a moment on the UHH. I'm not sure there's an answer. Maybe inquiring at the Apple store, but even they may not have an answer. Perhaps , the troublesome interference will be over when the next IOS comes through.

The first thing I would try is, after exiting the Hog, to lightly double tap the 'home' button. This brings up a series of panels for all the open apps. To 'force quit' finger sweep them upwards; in iOS 9 they will sort of be on top of one-another and each one swept individually. Sometimes one has too many open apps and that clogs up OS operations. Another trick I often forget is clearing Safari history. During open Hog sessions, you can have the bookmarks panel on the left side open. In it at top left corner there is a 'back' button - tap that back to the panel that shows 'history.' Tap history and find delete button - it will give you a bunch of back in time options. I usually do clear all. Then you can go forward to your bookmarks. But with 64 GB you shouldn't have either of these memory using problems. Does UHH use cookies? Might your browser preferences cookie setting be at fault. The problem you are having doesn't happen on my iPad 2 Air with iOS 9.1 .

I was too brief - to get to the bookmarks panel tap the little 'open-book' icon to the left of the address bar at the top.

I have an iPad Air and have the same problem, prior to IOS 9 as well. It is very annoying! I find if I delete history it works ok for a while, but still returns. Will watch with interest for other replies. :D

Like SylviaS, I have an iPad Air Gen 1. Now that I think about it, I did have that problem before 9.1 a lot. I can't remember the last time it happened.

Have you tried a REBOOT? Holding one finer on the Home button while holding down the On/Off Button. Keep holding the Apple Logo shows on the screen.

Couldn't Hurt!

BTW, I'm holding out on my iPhone 6 until 9.2 has been released and proven to be sound. Still running 8.X

If I log into UHH on a MBP running OS X 10.11, and attempt to DL Amy's Egret, everything works as advertised. I'm beginning to associate the problem with IOS, especially since the problems effect earlier versions of IOS as well as 9.X and IOS devices of varying vintages.

Thank's for your input.

Debbie, John F, Sylvias and Indi

Tried the following:

Force Quit all Open Apps
Turned the iPad2 off and restarted
Rebooted the iPad
Deleted History - Preferences > Safari > Clear History & Website Data
Deleted All Bookmarks (I'll probably need one or two tomorrow😊)

After each attempt I went back to Amy's Egret and received the
"Page closed and will reopen" message.

Thanks for everyone's input. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one with this problem. Maybe Apple will resolve this with the next IOS update.

I'm in the process of making some changes and investigating this problem further.

Turns out, there is also something you could try on your end.

At this point, several users were able to identify a fix for iPad with Safari browser.

Here is one reply that might help:

There were two things I had not been doing. First, when Safari is open there is an icon in the upper right hand corner that looks like 2 pages or papers stacked. When you click on it, all the sites running in the background appear as small "pages" on your screen and you can close them by clicking the X in each page's top corner. The other thing I had never done was to quickly double click the button to close the program I had been running, i.e. game or email, and a split screen appears and you can swipe up the page to close the program. These two things fixed my problems. Hope this helps.

It looks like Safari, if not exited properly, keeps all the pages you've visited active in the background. Over time, that overloads the system and contributes to the problems of browser freezing, half-page loading, and repeated redirects.

You can find some additional information, that's still relevant for iOS 9 (not just 8,7,etc.).

Here is what I have tried so far

- Read and implemented the two IOS 8 tips above
- Force Quit IOS (Home button & ON/OFF key simultaneously)
- Turned off the iPad2 and restarted
- Deleted History > Preferences>Safari>Clear History & Website data
- Deleted all bookmarks
- With Safari Open, I clicked on the double pages and closed all open pages except for UHH and also closed out what appear to be history by swiping to the left and clicking on delete but when I returned to this section a bit later it appears that most if not all of the History had returned.

After these attempts I again went to AmyJ's (Amy I promise I am not picking on you}Egret and attempted to dl the pic. I received the same msg -"Problem with the Web Page and will close and reopen it" and then the page crashed, just the page not the UHH site. I then tried to dl Amy's Eagle and received the same message that the Page would close and reopen but it never did - just hung but did not crash. I opened a pic by Rockdog - Pintails and Nalu - Sandhill Cranes without a problem. In limited testing it seems I experience this problem only with Amy's pics although I have received the "Problem with this page and will close and reopen" fairly often on UHH in the past but usually the page did open.

I just remembered a suggestion to restore the iPad2 and reload all the apps and data. I will try that next and let you know what happens.

Here is what I have tried so far br br - Read and... (show quote)

Just finished the restore of my iPad2, opened UHH > BIF/BOW > and tried to open Amy's Eagle.

Received the following message, "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded". After a minute or two delay the following message appeared "A problem repeatedly occurred on "http://static.uglyhedgehog.com/upload/2015/10/30/1446236685220-eagleadult2.jpg.

Rock dog's Pintails and Nalu''s Sandhills dl OK. FWIW, Pintails dl very fast, the Sandhills were much slower but load. I dl both of them within 2 - 3 minutes of each other. let me know if you need anything further.

BTW, B4 I Reset my iPad I backed it up to iTunes on a MBP running OS X 10.11. MANY of the apps did not restore to my iPad but I think they are still in Applications and can be dl. Just a lot of - to me - unnecessary work as I think the backup restore should have given me a "clone" of the iPad data and apps. Organization of the Apps on the iPad was also messed up. Sure different than the backup / restore results of OS X.
