Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art question

Several months back GPS Phil convinced me to purchase the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art for my Nikon D7100 and I couldn't be happier. Now I am thinking of picking up the Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art for my Nikon D810 and am looking for some feedback from current owners of the lens. Thank you in advance for your thoughts. 8-)

Glad to hear your enjoying the 18-35 Neal. Anxious to hear some reports on the 24-35. I have the Sigma 24-105 f/4, and added Nikons new 20mm1.8 with the thought of having it in the bag for that occasional wide shot needed. To my surprise, it stays on the Df about 60% of the time. Extremely sharp with very low distortion. It is without a doubt, my best landscape lens. Between the light weight, and low light performance, it is very versatile.
Just a thought.

Phil

Curious as to why you would get the 24-35mm when you already have the 18-35mm....seems redundant..?

NealB - I agree with Carlo. Why purchase an overlapping lens when you could spend the money for a high quality prime or non-overlapping zoom. Lenses are not inexpensive accessories, so it is usually best to be selective when making a purchase.

The Sigma 18-35mm is a very highly regarded crop sensor lens. The OP apparently likes the lens and is considering the 24-35 because it is a full frame version of it, albeit bigger and heavier with a slightly more restricted focal range and a 1/3 stop slower aperture. Because the 18-35 is such a highly respected optic, many full frame camera owners have wanted Sigma to create something similar for them. This is it.

I have a Sigma 18-35. If this 24-35 FF lens is as good as the 18-35, which is meant for crop sensors,, than it will be the equivalent of three high quality primes in a single package, with every focal length in between. On a crop body the 18-35 is one of the sharpest lens made, sharper than many primes. If the 24-35 is as good, many full frame users will want a copy. If i had a full frame body, know I would. Yes, unlike Canon, on a Nikon D810 FF you could use the 18-35 in crop mode, but if you want similar results in full resolution you would need the 24-35.

So you are assuming that Neal's unstated intention is to get rid of the lens he has in favor of the 24-35mm. That would make more sense.

I'm not assuming anything and I'm not a mind reader. You and Carlo seemed to be a bit surprised that the OP would consider a second lens with such a similar range. As an owner of the 18-35 myself, I was only suggesting a reason why someone moving to full frame and having the experience of an Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 on crop might want to purchase the 24-35 f/2. If I moved to full frame I would strongly consider the purchase myself and, in my case, then sell the 18-35mm.

I image I should have given a better explanation of what I wanted to achieve. The 18-35 is for APS-C camera which my D7100 is. The 24-35 is for Full Frame cameras which my D810 is. While either lens will work on both cameras some what I want the correct lens for each camera. I have no plans of selling the 18-35 to buy the 24-35. I just want the correct lens of each camera.
