Hi, All,

During the past couple of months I have started several threads in another section in an attempt to both stimulate interest in Haiga ( images combined with complementary haiku poems) and to encourage fellow hoggers to try their hand at the medium...and of course, to encourage those who already are familiar with Haiga to post them here in UHH.

To these ends I am posting links to some of my original Haiga, as well as links to sites dealing with writing haiku for those who perhaps haven't thought about them since having to write a few of the seventeen syllable free-verse poems in Grade school or middle school.
I am eager to receive C&C on my posted Haiga, and to see Haiga that any fellow hoggers may wish to post.

Any questions and comments are welcome

Best to all,

Dave

Enjoyed the beautiful images and the haiku. Was about to question the latter, however, until I saw the third link, where you offered clarification of the different forms (11-syllable, 17-syllable, and so on). OK, here goes (traditional 5-7-5 English.)

Weary grasses bow
As sunset so rich in hue
Leaves them colorless

Hi cabunit,
The so-called "rules" are very flexible. One that seems pretty firm is: " Don't exceed 17 syllables". Some of the more notable modern English haiku may contain as few as six or eight syllables, most from 9 to 12. Haiku is a great example of where "less is more".
So jump in...the water's fine!
Several of the links will guide you to some e cel lent advice on writing haiku.

Wow! When you say you're going to give Haiga a try, you sure swing for the fences and hit a homer!
That's a beautiful Haiga!

Sure would love to see some more.

Amazing timely post. Thank you! I did not know about Haiga at ant level before you posted this. How could I have missed it? I'm posting one of mine depicting the spreading of ashes of a dear friend and musician at his memorial in the Rockies in August. I wrote the verse upon waking from a dream where it was fully delivered. There is more to this story but I'm speechless just now!

For Jeff
For Jeff...

Wowbmw,
You haiku for Jeff is simply stunningy beautiful. It is, in my experience so rare for a haiku to come forth fully formed and requiring no revision.
Please...please do let us see more.

Thank you TKT.
Do you write haiku?

This was the second time in my long life it has happened for me in this way. I thanked my muse immensely for the gift. Thank you for your kind words. Once I get past a few challenges I will gladly share some of my work. Were does this fit within the options offered by UHH?
