any hearing aid will do, we are born with built in selective hearing. thank you God.

When things got too noisy at family gatherings, my grandmother used to turn off her hearing aid.

Great idea - maybe we can all get together and do a bulk purchase?!?!?!?!
Used to work with a guy who was severely hearing impaired and who wore hearing aids. During meetings he was always turning his head following the conversation and seeming involved until one day, while looking left, someone on his right asked him a direct question. When he didn't respond I touched his shoulder and pointed. He smiled, reached up and turned his hearing aids on then answered the question. Turns out that's how he kept such a great smile on his face during these interminable meetings - he couldn't hear anything that was happening and took his cues on which way to look from everybody else. He immediately became my Meeting Hero :)

In the wife position the sound goes directly out the other ear, i.e., no diversion to the brain.
