Got a humongus military blimp loose in central PA, currently floating 16,000 ft, being followed by a couple of F-16s. Could be a pretty good photo op.

Just saw that on my Yahoo news. Didn't know it was worth $1.5 Billion. I thought the F-16s would just pick a desolate area and shoot it down, but not if it's worth that much.

For that cost, you would think they would have been sure it was properly tied down!

This is a Military blimp after all. It can probably be replaced for less than $5000 by a kit purchased from the back of Popular Aviation magazine. It's like the toilet seats they use to buy.

Yeah, someone's in trouble. I think the rule is one rope per $ billion, so they thought they were okay. :D
It's obvious that it was simply fit to be tied......so it ran away !

I read where it has some sort of deflation device (controlled remotely?) and that it had deflated but not when it was expected.
I don't know if it was taken home, but re-inflating it would be some task or transporting something that huge would also be difficult but not impossible.
News reports said that the tether hitting on power lines caused 18,000 outages.
# 1 You have to be very naïve to believe you are getting the facts from the controlled media, and military. Do you really think that the bloated toilet seats were not re applied to another purchase order. Have any of you actually been in the military, if so you must know very little truth ever get's out to the public, or maby I was in an illusion unit. The waste I saw was a dream.
yeah it landed in Pa. we lost power from 130pm tp 800pm good to see who paying for all of this..

Need one helluva telephoto lens to capture it at 16,000 feet though,
BTW the $2 billion was the cost of the total program. The blimp itself was something like $186 million or so.
