To Open Nikon D810 Raws - That is the Question

I recently changed from a Nikon D800 to a D810. I shoot Raw. Until now I have used PSE 11 bundled with ACR (unknown version) which opens D800 Raws but it will not open D810 Raws. In order to open D810 Raws, I need to upgrade my PSE.

It's my understanding that:

1. The minimum version of ACR that will open Nikon D810 NEF (Raw) files is ACR Version 8.6;

2. PSE 13 comes 'bundled' with ACR Version 8.6; and

3. PSE 14 comes 'bundled' with ACR Version 9.2;

Therefore, in order to open and process Nikon D810 Raws, I need to trash PSE 11 then race out and purchase, at minimum, PSE 13 (which comes 'bundled' with ACR Version 8.6') or PSE 14 (which comes 'bundled with ACR Version 9.2).

Does this make sense or am I off the planet? I welcome your advice but please, please, please keep it simple. Make like you're explaining to a silly old git who simply wants to process his D810 Raws in PSE!! :roll:

Thanks in anticipation,

Warren

View NX2 came with the camera, use it to convert your 810 files to tiff or jpeg and use any program to fine tune them if needed.

Warren, is this simple enough? : It makes perfect sense and you're still on this planet!
Just because PSE14 comes bundled with version 9.2 does not mean that it incompatible with anything before that.
PSE 11 shipped with either version 6.7 or 7.1 (the Adobe website is unclear), but definitely ACR 7.4 was the latest it is compatible with.
Yes, your camera wants ACR 8.6. If you'd like to keep usiing PSE, it means upgrading to version 13 or 14, or convert your photos to .dng files (dng converter available for free from Adobe), or use the software that came with your camera, or find another program that will handle your files.

If you'd like to stick with PSE, I wouldn't run out and buy PSE 13 or 14.
PSE 14 was released in September, and "traditionally" has gone on sale between Black Friday and Christmas for about $50.

Edit: Should have looked at your location first: the $50 sale is for the USA, I don't know about sales in Australia.

That's part of the problem, PSE 11 will not take the later ACR version that OP needs for his camera.

Thanks joe.... makes sense however I read tonight that Nikon has replaced NX2 with NX-D and will not continue support for NX2. I further read some find NX-D too 'clunky'....whatever that means. In any case I plan to down-load it to make my own informed decision.... though I'm not keen to inflict the pain of learning a new program on my weary old brain! :shock: Thanks for taking the time.

MS... thanks for your considered response, I really appreciate you going though the options.

I would like to stick with PSE and ACR.... only because I'm familiar with them and have no desire to learn a whole new program for a microscopic improvement. My brain regards the pain of learning a new program as a self inflicted injury and refuses to co-operate!!

PSE 14 is yet to be released in Australia so I might simply buy PSE 13 at the inevitable fire sale, convert the Raws in ACR and send them to my very familiar and comfortable PSE 11 for a final fiddle before flooding the market with my photos. How's that sound!! ;-)

Again....thanks

Thanks warrior but I've already tried that and it doesn't work. See the post by Morning Star to Rongnongno above.

Try Nikon's DNG converter, It is free, I use it for my D7100 NEF files which will not open in my version on CS.

For $9.99 a month you can subscribe to PS CC and it will automatically update any version of LR or ACR. It really is worth the money.
