In my life the 5 & 10 was Woolworths. Made famous and immortalized by the Glenn Miller song "a string of pearls ( a la Woolworths)".

5-10 here were Woolworths too. I miss the lunch counter :)
Yeah, convincing mom to get us a hot dog was a BIG deal! Better yet, remember the pet area, where they sold baby crocs & alligators along with goldfish, turtles & the like?? Can you IMAGINE the BS today if a pet store sold alligators?

Also the old "T,G,and Y" which we always thought meant "Toys, Guns, and Yo-Yos". The breadth of what they had was awesome - but also sad when I remember that they also had exotic animals in tiny little cages.
I remember the Ben Franklin. There was even one on Guam where I had the pleasure of visiting TOO many times. I could buy stuff there that I needed and nowhere else was it available. djt
We had a "Hoy's" 5 and 10 where I was a kid in Springfield Pa, Delaware County. I remember drooling over a Daisy BB rifle. My other favorite was L+H Wonder Stores. They sold everything including official Boy and Girl Scout stuff. Thanks for the memories.
Oh so well.. we also had Duckworth's and Sprouse Ritz (sp?).
Ah the good ol days.
Nice shot.
Thanks, I didn't know they were still around.
We had a Ben Franklin in my hometown many years ago.
