You need to be aware that the D750 is a FULL FRAME camera, and that the 18-140mm and 18-300mm lenses are designed for CROP sensor cameras. There is no such lens as a 24-300mm from any manufacturer, and the 24-120mm Nikon lens is the "kit" lens that can be purchased at a discount WITH the D750 body.

I have the D 750, 24-120 and the 28-300. Both are fairly large, comparatively heavy lenses. I like them both very much. I use the 28-300 as an all around lens, the 24-120 as an in town / city walk around and indoor / outdoor. Nearly all of the photos I have posted in the last 3 weeks or so are with the 28-300, a few with an 18-35. Low light is quite good. Lots of samples to view -- I believe I identified equipment used in most shots. I have not done any sports with either lens -- moving birds a few times.

I also have a D750 full frame camera. My go to lens is also the 77mm 28-300 3.5-5.6 zoom lens. It's a great all around lens. I would start with that lens and purchase other lenses as necessary.

I usually have the 28-300mm on my D750. Nice combo.

The 24-120 f/4 is definitely not a kit lens.
1. Compact and versatile 5X standard zoom lens with f/4 maximum aperture (update from older variable aperture)
2. VR II Image Stabilization - 4 stops of light
3. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements offers superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration, even at the widest aperture setting.
4. M/A Focus Mode Switch enables quick changes between manual and autofocus operation.
5. Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables fast, accurate and quiet autofocus.
6. Rounded 9-blade diaphragm renders more natural appearance of out-of-focus image areas.
7. Nano Crystal Coat further reduces ghosting and interior flare across a wide range of wavelengths for even greater image clarity.
8. 3 Aspherical Lens Elements virtually eliminate coma and other types of aberration, even when shooting at the widest available aperture.
9. Internal Focus (IF) provides fast and quiet autofocus without changing the length of the lens, retaining working distance throughout the focus range.
10. Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior color consistency and reduced flare.
11. And unlike a "kit" lens it is weather sealed with metal mount
12. Its 77 mm diameter is the same as the other professional series Nikon lenses.
It sells for $1296 which is exactly what it cost in 2010 when it was introduced.

The D750 is a great camera but very complex. If you need a long reach lens the 28-300 is the way to go but it is heavy. The kit lens is adequate for every day grab shots and then some and is cheaper. Also, is heavy for around the neck carrying. I got a hip/shoulder strap to take the weight off the neck. Works just fine, easy to move and shoot with it.

Mark, you are correct in that the lens is excellent but is sold at a discount with the D750 which gave it the "kit lens" designation. Only Nikon's better lenses have the nano crystal coating. A good deal!

I own the D750 and shoot the 24-120 as one of my lenses. It is a great camera and the 24-120 f4 is extremely sharp. I have owned Nikon cameras since my first Nikon FTN in 1969 and the D750 is one of the best Nikon cameras produced.

Why would you put a crop sensor lens on a wonderful D750 full frame camera and reduce the effective resolution by 50%?

B&H lists the 28/300 lens as a FX format lens....not a DX.
Did I miss something?

I have the D750 with quite a few lenses, including the 14-24, 24-70, 28-300, 24-120, and a fish eye. Also have have the Sigma ART 35mm and 50mm, and Nikon 85mm prime lenses. (Yes, I had a very serious GAS attack - sue me.)

Someone on this forum once advised looking back through old photographs to try to identify what focal lengths were the most prevalent to try to decide what lenses to purchase. So I took his advice. On my crop sensor D7000, I always had the heavy 18-300mm mounted because I always wanted to have the versatility. But I found that most of my shots were in the 24-100 range. So now, with the full frame camera, my "go to" lens is the 24-70. I very rarely ever need anything past 70, and it's a bit lighter to lug around than the big 28-300mm for this camera.

The D750 is an awesome camera, and as someone here pointed out, it does a LOT. Use good FF lenses - While you can put a lens meant for a cropped sensor on this camera, but you lose the image quality, which is why you upgrade to a FF to begin with.
