I don't know what happened. I use Canon's "Digital Photo Professional" and used to process raw from my 6D. I got a Panasonic DMC ZS40 as a bridge camera and also loaded it's PP program but I've since deleted it. My raw photos are labeled with "CR2" under a blank box. My regular photos that I can process are labeled "JPG". There's no visible raw photo to process but there is still a corresponding numbered space for every JPG. Anybody know what's going on? Thank you

I just learned that the CR2 , at least on my Mac, is a raw file. If you Google CR2 you can see it says it's RAW.

CR2 is indeed a raw file - on any system.

This means you need either of these three:
- Manufacturer software (free)
- Something that can read and translate your raw file to another format (raw therapee comes to mind ~ not a misspelling) or Adobe raw to DNG
- A more sophisticated commercial software that reads raw files.

Reinstall the Canon DPP in case something got messed up?
It's Canon's RAW editor.

Follow "Drivers and Software" from this link and download the latest v4.x version of the DPP software as this is specific to RAW processing from your 6D. You'll be promted for the serial number on your camera to perform the download. If in Japan, there's probably other link available too.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I don't have my Canon software with me so I'll try CHG Canon's link to the DDP software or Rongnongno's "therapee" in order to reload something that can read CR2 files. Matanae (see you later).

It's better to download the latest version from Canon. That way you get more function and usually a faster version.

You don't need to have any Canon software with you. Go to

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digital_slr_cameras/eos_rebel_t3i_body#DriversAndSoftware

and select DPP v 4.3.31. After that all you need is your camera's serial number.

Longshadow thanks. I used CHG's link and everything is back to normal. I just used DPP raw on a shot of my wife' Monet painting.

Actually the Canon site didn't even ask for the serial number or have me sign in. It just downloaded the latest version of DPP and now I can work with raw images. Thank you again.

Anyone have suggestions on how to use the DPP raw program. I use the obvious -picture brightness, white balance, style and contrast/saturation, shadow etc., but is there a tutorial on how to use everything to get good photos. I read the "Help" file but it is very function specific and not at all subjective like a Bryan Peterson book might be.
