A pair of Red-Bellied Woodpeckers at Paurotis Pond, Everglades. The female doesn't get quite the adornments of the male. A common theme in the bird world.

Some fine shots here. But I still think the female is just as beautiful as the male.

The last photo in download is the only photo ever needed to explain the reason for the name Red "Bellied" Woodpecker. You captured it beautifully.

Thanks Corolyn, and I couldn't agree more. The female is beautiful, just different enough to tell them apart.

Thanks cameranut. I appreciate your comments and the thumbs up. I've run into a number of people over the years who have mistakenly called this bird a "Red-headed Woodpecker." Understandable until you see an actual Red-Headed Woodpecker.

We don't have those here . If we do I never see them and we are only 300 or 400 miles away from you

Make that about a four hour ferry ride from victory if a ferry went that way
So probably 100 miles by water
