DPreview...open both tech spec pages and compare by flicking from one to the other, Probable differences will be minor unless its the one thing that you need!

i have the 750, upgraded from the 700 which i still have and still use often. i love the 750!! it is a great camera, has some nice advantages over the 800. the tilt screen alone is worth it. i use that often with live view and it just makes my photography so much easier....especially if i want to shoot high or low.
24 mg is more than enough. i find the files are large enough, with 36 mg it would be way more.

hope this helps a bit.

For me, it wouldn't even be a contest. Take a look at comparisons.

What do you want to use it for. The 750 has a higher frames per second rate and may be better for action. The 750 has less mass than the D800. I own them both and I really like both. The D800 has an older processing engine than the D750 and some feel the 800 is slow but I use the D800 for landscapes and I really think it shines. I also really like the tilt screen on the D750. I shot a lot of slow shutter speed water movement, I like to get a close to the water as I can get sometimes, the tilt screen lets me get really low, also I can hold the 750 over my head and shoot down tilting the screen in the opposite direction. Your choice, they both will serve you well, you have to look at all the features and get the one that is best for you. By the way, an old Nikon Rep. friend of mine told me that the D750 was one of the best camera out of the box that Nikon has made for a while. It also has a feature called group focus and it great for action. My D800 has to have the sensor cleaned about once a year but causes me no problems otherwise.

Two different level of camera, one is consumer and the other is semi-pro.

EASY no contest! 750 has these advantages:

1. Tiltable Screen. Tiltable vs Fixed Tilt the screen for shooting flexbility
2. Bigger pixels ~ 5.97 vs 4.88 microns Better low-light and dynamic range (all else equal)
3. Built-in Wi-Fi Wi-Fi vs None Share your photos wirelessly
4. Longer stills battery life More info 1230 vs 900 shots Capture more photos
5. Newer 12 months vs 4 years old Newer cameras often support more advanced features
6. Faster JPEG shooting 6.6 fps vs 4.0 fps Faster JPEG shooting (burst mode)
7. Faster RAW shooting 6.6 fps vs 4.0 fps Faster RAW shooting in burst mode
8. Higher extended ISO 51200 vs 25600 ISO Higher extended ISO can give more low-light flexibility

800 has only one advantage - more pixels. But they are smaller, thus more noise, less dynamic range.

And which one to take on a shoot? If bringing both, which lenses to put on which bodies?

I think this camera solves all problems: good quality and only one lens - 35mm. :D

The answer lies in what you intend to shoot. Anything with action would lean toward the D750. Landscape work would lean toward the D810. Between the D750 and the D800, as you asked, I would buy the D750 as it is newer technology. If you really meant the D810, the choice is harder. In some ways, I consider the D750 the little brother of the D4s as it shares some of its features and technology. YMMV. Best of luck.

Under what criteria would someone even say this. What makes a pro camera; what the heck is a "semi pro" camera; what about "prosumer", and I thought we are all consumers.

Many "pros" are going to mirrorless which don't hold a candle to either of these two cameras in my humble opinion.

People buy what they think is the best value for them. The D750 has many advantages over the D800 and the D800 has advantages over the D750. To say one is semipro and the other is consumer is an uninformed comment and doesn't add anything to help a person make an intelligent decision between the two.
