I'm not sure if this was meant as irony or not. I met up with a few friends I went to school with and we got talking about the music that was around at the time. Was this meant to be ironic, in which case it's a very rare incidence of Americans understanding irony, or was it meant to be taken seriously?

Thanks for this post. This was my and my husband's song...when we were dating, my folks didn't approve of him and whenever he called to talk to me they either hung up at the sound of his voice or they concocted some story about my being gone for whatever reason, and then before slamming the phone down, told him not to bother calling back. It went on for a couple years like that. LOL
