One of our local Mule Deer friends here on the farm.
We have a mother with two young's that we see every evening. This is one of her fawns that has got so big.
Very sturdy looking animal. Nice pose.
Very pretty, nice pose.
I think this is actually a Whitetail though, not a muley.

Thanks. We live on 300 acres and have both Mule and Whitetail here on the farm but yes I think you're right her ears are smaller.
There are several ways to tell the difference. Whitetails actually have black & brown tails when relaxed and their butts are mostly brown. Muleys have a large white patch covering their butts and their tails are actually more white than a whitetails (when relaxed). Whitetails also have just white rings around their eyes and noses, muleys have much more white extending from nose to eyes.
Even with these clues they can be very difficult to distinguish. Even ear size can be deceiving. I think they do it deliberately.
