My Day on The Blue Ridge Parkway: Trail to Linville Falls

To view both of the Linville Falls drops you have to hike upward to the the Chimney View which looks down on both the Lower and Upper Falls. Although I started out early, by the time I got to the overlook the shadows were playing havoc on the Lower Falls. But who can complain about a robin's egg blue sky day. I needed a good excuse to work on bracketing shots anyway.

One sure better keep both eyes on the trail!

More beautiful woodsy captures. I particularly like the second shot of the trail with the fall color on the trees. Well done.

very nice set of your hike...the second shot of the rooted path and the tall trees with the colorful leaves is the one i like best.

What a lovely journey back to my old stomping grounds. It makes me think of Dorothy clicking her heels repeating "There's no place like home. There's no place like home". It makes me nostalgic for a visit home and I'm certain my feet just developed a bad case of wanderlust. Thanks for sharing your visit :)

I suspect the leading lines in the rock are what make that image more interesting than the others. Glad you liked it, Leicaflex.

Thank you, Cwilson! It's a wonder I noticed the trees above in the second shot for having to look down to keep from tripping on the roots--I think I was catching my breath when I looked up.

That's makes two who favor that image. The backlit scene always appeals to me and I came home with several captures where the leaves were lit from behind. I'm getting ready to post some more shortly. I hope you enjoy them also. So glad to have you drop in and share your feedback, merrytexan! (P.S. I'd welcome your thoughts on the first image on the other parkway post for Duggers Creek. It is similar in lighting to the second picture on this post.)

What area did you live in? I used to live in the Jonas Ridge area near Linville Falls, then moved farther south. I have several posts to make from that day's outing so keep an eye out for scenes you may recognize, Singing Swan!

Thank you, SB! It was a wonderful hike--the temps were cool and wind was rustling the tree tops...a perfect autumn day!!

Thank you, I appreciate that! I do wish, however, that I could figure out how to adjust color and brightness to compensate for the upload to UHH--seems like everything looks duller and dimmer than on my IPS monitor, even though it is calibrated.

Nice work, Diane. It does bring back memories. I wish I could have made it to the Chimney Rock Overlook, maybe next time.

Just a suggestion for your uploading to UHH: since this site downsizes a full resolution photo, I've found that in LR, if I export, go to "image sizing", use w: 1600, h: 1100 pixels (for a landscape/horizontal shot) @ a resolution of 250, they upload fairly quickly and at a good quality color & resolution. But you have to check the "store original" box. Try that & I think that "duller & dimmer " thing might disappear.

Glad you dropped in and read about my dilemma, KT! I'll most certainly try your suggestion on LR settings because it does get tedious waiting on the large files to upload. I just haven't known what settings would preserve image quality at the lowest possible size. Thanks for the help!
