Machu Picchu, Peru.
Machu Picchu, Peru, a world heritage site, is located on a subtopical mountaintop at 8,000 ft elevation, 13.1 degrees south of the equator. It has been selected as one of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World". Since this city of 200 buildings was apparently never discovered by the invading Spanish, it was never plundered or destroyed. Many historians believe it was constructed in the 1400s by the ruler, Pachacuti. It was abandoned 100 years later. Possibly, most of the inhabitants died of Smallpox.
Basically, this is a most extraordinary site for a city!

Awesome landscape. The lower stone terraces shown in shots 1&3 are unbelievable to think someone found a place to stand while they were building the walls. Thanks for sharing Redrock, great set

[quote=Redrock51]Your captures are outstanding of Machu Picchu, Peru. My son sent me a few recently and I Photoshopped all the people out. Only my obsession. Beautiful with or without people. David

It's really impressive "up close". So happy it survived the invasion.
