Caught this guy in my backyard pecking away at the elm tree. Every time I was in position to take a photo he would move around the tree just out of sight. After I gave him a little room, he moved to where I got a off a couple of quick shots. 2X crop. Don't know which woodpecker. I have only seen a woodpecker here twice in 30 years. Gotcha!!
It's either an Acorn Woodpecker or a yellow belly sapsucker. I'm now leaning towards the latter, he doesn't have the whitish eyes of an Acorn.

Yep, still have leaves probably for about 3 more weeks then it is cleanup time. Still in the 80s daytimes. Thanks for looking....... Cliff
Elms -- there are treatments that will prolong their lives. Worth a Google -- great trees!
After checking a range map, I believe my little friend may be just a little off his range. Rarely spotted in Ca. but occasionally seen.
Wow! He was off course, wasn't he?
Very nice and I'm glad you got the shot and shared it. Thanks.
