The Line Up in the Mountains
Oct 12, 2015 14:27:54   #
CraigFair Loc: Santa Maria, CA.

I was camping up on Figueroa Mountain and sleeping in the lawnchair under the open skies.
When I awoke at 3:00 AM there was the constellation Orion staring me right in the face.
Wow what a way to wake up. Back to sleep and awoke again at 5:00 AM and there was the 3 Planet lineup and the Crescent Moon.
I went and got my Camera and was able to snap a few photos of it handheld. I had to crank the ISO up way to high to get it handheld.
Nikon D800E w/Tamron 16-28mm f/2.8.
f/2.8, ISO 2500, 1/25 sec @16mm.

No fair, Mr. Fair!
Great save, sleepyhead.

Hey you really could use an intervalometer, my friend.
It keeps your camera marching along while you snooze and dream of MilkyWays to come. ;)

I don't see my favorite warrior anywhere in this picture.
How do I know you didn't just dream him up?
;)
Nice one Craig..
Oh and like Sonny said, where's your intervoltamommymeter at?

Thank you very much Sonny, those sites were really cool to wake up to.
I have a great intervalometer but it does no good without a tripod & doing handheld work.

Well where was your tripod????
I like to set it, and forget it. Sleep to the gentle clicking of the camera working like a good robot.

My mount is in Torrence.
So I'm relegated to my Tripod. :-(
I figure if I just give up and forget about it, the UPS guy will suddenly show up and I'll have a reason to sit out back again.
Meanwhile, tonight is the New Moon!

My tripod and mount were packed away in the 4Runner with no time to unpack it all and get any shots.

Oh Darn!
What? Did you get there late?
Or were you loaded up for a quick get away?

(I put my gear in the truck when bedtime rolls around. And just keep out the camera running on the tripod outside my tent window.
Speedy always woofs softly if he hears anything. Just enough to wake me, not loud enough to scare off the threat.)

Fri night we just used my friends 5" Meade Newtonian Reflector with no camera abilities at all...
My stuff was pack away deep inside my Rig.
