The hotel I stayed in on a recent trip to Saint Louis, MO afforded a spectacular view of the arch and surrounding buildings. The Pear Tree Inn on Market Street has windows on each of ten floors which face east towards the heart of the city. You have lots of different looks throughout the morning, mid day, afternoon and evening! THe last shot was taken from the river side of the arch and shows some construction underway on the arch grounds

Thanks. Shot through glass with Canon SX50.
Nice shots. Always fascinating -- stayed often on business at Hotels near the arch and photographed it many times over the years. Early and late light can be really compelling.
I remember the interior ride to the top.
I like the way you framed #2 Paul. Good shots all!
Thanks to all for the positive comments!

Loc: St. Louis burbs, but originally Chicago burbs
Even though I live about 20 miles form the Arch, I don't visit the city as often as I could (too cheap to take the train and don't want to fight traffic), but do go occasionally and ALWAYS bring my camera - if you're a student at the local community college or are a senior you can get a free train/bus pass - when the arch was still open before reconstruction of the grounds began I went up to the top and took like an 8-shot pano...turned out pretty nice (for the most part). There are lots of photographically advantageous places to go in St. Louis that I've never been to. The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum (
www.iphf.org), also somewhere I've never been is within blocks of Symphony Hall and the Fox Theater. I'm sure someone could easily spend a weekend in STL and not find everything to shoot!
