I set my camera down on a chair with the flash attached, and learned a lesson the hard way when my son plopped down in the chair without looking. I can buy this new (Triopo TR-980N) for $80 to $90. My guess is the repair would be darn near the same if not more. Anyone have any thought what the actual repair cost might be?

Good luck shipping it to China for repair when you can replace it for $63.59. It appears to have similar features and slightly lower price than Yongnuos and I consider Yongnuos to be throwaways, not worth repairing.

I broke the base on a good strobe one time and couldn't bare to part with it.

After a small amount "surgery", I now use it for a slave only. Just a thought.

Speedlights are measured and compared by Guide Numbers.
Here is a thread discussing GNs of popular speedlights: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-91636-1.html

Hi,
Recently Mt Shooter (Carter's Camera store) recommended Altura flashes. I got two for my Nikon at a bit less than $75.00 each. They seem to be very good. I have not had them long enough to see how they hold up, but they have been excellent on the several shoots I've had them on. Take care & ...

OK. If the cost of repair equals the cost of replacement, is there really any question as to what a reasonable person would do? Geesus.

Solder the ends back on
glue the base back in place

I had a Nikon SB600 repaired at Nikon. It cost $180, but came back as a new flash. To me it was worth it to have the SB600 back and working for $180. Your flash just isn't worth repairing.

Of course following the wiring diagram not supplied by the manufacturer. I HATE IT when capacitors explode!

They make some really nice glues now days but for the strength needed for a hot shoe mount, it ain't gonna happen.

As said prior, use it as a slave where the strength isn't so important.

Thank you for being a voice of reason...that was my guess, but I wanted to confirm it.
