I'm debating purchasing PSP X8 Ultimate and am uncertain if it has a dehaze feature as the newest LR does - I couldn't determine this from the Corel website. I called Corel and don't have much faith in the answer I got - first the representative didn't know what dehaze is, then he said X8 Ultimate did not have it. Next I asked specifically if dehaze was included in Perfect Effects 9.5, which comes with PSP X8U, and after a pause, apparently to search, he said it did. Not exactly confidence inspiring for a new prospective customer (I didn't buy).
Do any of you PSP users know the answer to this? If dehaze can be done in PSP X8 have any of you used it and, if so, how effective is it? Thanks in advance for any replies.

'Dehaze' is a Lightroom specific term/function not available in any other software. DxO Pro has a 'Clearview' term/function which has some similarities to Dehaze.

To be very blunt, no PSP X8 Ultimate does not have a dehaze function as such. It does have good functions such as Clarify, Unsharp Mask, and separate Color adjustments which will help a lot. Searching the internet for haze removal from photos, these techniques came up more than once, including using PSE, PS, and PSP. The before and after photo comparisons I saw from using Lightroom, PS, and PSP were about the same. I am not convinced that Lightroom will do any better than PSP X8 Ultimate. I have used PSP for many years and have tried other programs such as Lightroom more than once. Gave Lightroom up twice. Didn't do anything for me. I don't like dealing with import/export and file catalogs. Too confusing and too many additional steps involved just to get to my files. I have read too many stories right here on the Hog about people losing their files or not knowing where they are. I don't have those problems and have never lost a file. I am very satisfied with PSP X8 Ultimate. Extremely good program for the price. It also uses most of the Photoshop plugins from NIK, Redfield, Topaz, and more. Lightroom has one advantage and that is its RAW file conversion. PSP does RAW file conversion but not as well as Lightroom. However, RAW Therapie, and Aftershot Pro 2 are right behind Lightroom in that catagorie. I am not sure about Perfect Effects 9.5. I got it with my X8 Ultimate package but I am having trouble getting it activated. Hope this helps. Have a GREAT DAY!

I still use PSP X7. So far as I know, it doesn't have anything called Dehaze, but it does have layers and various blending modes. It seems to me that some time back I had pretty good results with haze by creating a duplicate layer of my image in burn mode and set the opacity somewhere between 2% and 10%.
Please know that Adobe added the dehaze tool to Photoshop CC 2015.

Just be aware that layers in PSE means that any images you are working on are automatically converted to 8-bit. This is not the case with the other options being discussed.

Yes, Dehaze in Lightroom, and Clearview in DxO Optics do much the same thing. Somewhere on the DxO website, it does mention that the amount of computing that is involved with Clearview is greater than the amount used for Prime Noise Removal. It is quite sophisticated.

Do you mean that Adobe has copyrighted the dehaze name and the technology involved or that it has just developed haze reduction before other photo editing software producers? Thanks.

I actually have no idea, but doubt it's a copywrited term. The ability to reduce haze has been available in almost all PP software for a long time, just not with a single slider and that's what all this is about. It's just another 'preset' with a fairly sophisticated algorithm. Can you reproduce the results without the single slider, yep, just not as easily. 8-)
Thanks for all the responses, much appreciated. I would like to keep my use of a dehaze feature as simple as possible, being really challenged with post processing. I do have PSE 11 so if I upgrade to PSE 14 I can pay the $20 lower upgrade price.
In addition to the basic manipulations I have in LR 4 I would like the capability to do HDR, composites, and dehaze, and PSE 14 should be able to do all of that if I understand it correctly (and if I can master layers, which thus far I have not been able to do). I do not want to do Adobe's CC subscription but, also if I understand correctly, PSE 14 be purchased outside of CC and will still have Adobe support and access to future upgrades, unlike PS and LR purchased outside the CC subscription program. Am I correct on this?
Thanks once again to all of you for your advice on this.
Actually you can remove haze in PSP... check the link below. I am seroiusly thinking about getting PSP X9 - I have been using Elements 11 for years and get frustrated with the organizer. I am with pixbyjnjphotos and his statement, regarding the Elements organizer, above.

Thank you Alby144. The fade correction feature in Paintshop Pro is great.
For years I have done most of my initial adjustments and tagging, rating etc with Windows Photo Gallery and anything that needed layers or adjustment of only part of the pic with PSP. Photo Gallery is a clean, simple interface. You could easily adjust the bottom end of the histogram to eliminate haze.
Microsoft did the dirty on me - Photo Gallery will not install in Windows 10 - so I have been checking out other adjustment and work flow sofware.

Jim, both Capture One and On1 have a "dehaze" -like filter. The On1 version is better than Lr/Ps.
