I have a question regarding a functional problem with my camera.
Ive had my Nikon D-80 for several years and have taken
thousands of photos with virtually no camera problems.
Last week while on vacation, I started getting an error message and I dont know why.
For about a day, it would make a different sound as I pushed the shutter release and it would not take the picture. I tried again and it did take a photo successfully. Then, it simply quit.
The battery is fully charged. I did a reset function but still no luck. I inspected my lenses and changed them several times. Still wouldnt work.
Is there any advise that you can give me before I take it in to my camera store?
Appreciate the help.
Dave
I think the shutter has finally given up on you. But it is replaceable.

I have a d80 with operational problems that I hope to solve with a d400, but my daughter had difficulty like yours with her d70. the problem was solved with a new battery even though the camera said her battery was fully charged.

The same thing happened to mine. If you got a "Err" msg, the manual refers you to a repair or sevice center. Mine had the shutter /aperature assembly repaird...cost $200.
Thanks for everyone's help with your experiences and suggestions regarding my D-80 problem.
Now I have to make a decision which includes upgrading to a new Nikon.
Thanks again,
Dave
