Took photo of this bird in Galveston, TX a couple weeks ago and I don't know what kind it is. Looked in several bird books but did not find anything exactly like it. I am hoping one of the bird experts here on UHH can help me out. I know it is not a great photo but I think it will be good enough for ID purpose.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Yep... it's a Starling. An invasive, alien species not native to North America.

They are terrible on the coast in this area. Inland the Crows, Hawks, and Mockingbirds keep them in check.

But Starlings are a REAL nuisance and pest....

Thanks for the information. UHH always has members that can identify birds. We have Starlings around here in East Texas but they are a good bit different. The size is the same but ours are not as distinctively marked. They are a pest here also but are mostly seen in the late fall and early winter and are usually in flocks.

Thanks again everyone.

The cowbird is a native species.

As I have said before, the only good starling is a dead starling.

Starlings are neat and very photogenic. When on the ground they seem to march around.

I don't mind them at all. Now, House Sparrows are another matter.

Yes. A nasty destructive native species, which, in combination with real-estate development in the middle of flyways, is decimating many important migrating species by their nasty habit of pushing eggs out of other birds' nests and leaving their own nasty eggs in the nest for the unsuspecting other bird to hatch and raise.

^^^Yep. They are parasitic like Cuckoo birds. Their young hatch fast and grow fast too.
