I'm looking at less expensive alternatives for a cell phone. Who's the provider for Tracfones? In this area, Verizon has very good coverage. Other carriers, not so much.

Does Verizon have a similar 'pay as you go' plan?

Or, just get a basic phone that just 'talks' and the minimum amount of talk time and test it out.

Tracfone rents lines from most providers including Verizon. I used to have a tracfone and had good coverage from NY to Fl along the I95 route.

Have had tracfone for years, used it traveling midwest. Never any problems. we have two phones with them. Or you can bring your own.

My granddaughters are in very rural SE Arizona and had Tracfones for years (till I stepped in with Verizon family plan) but they never had reception issues out there.

TracFone is the provider. A annual card can cost as little as 119 bucks a year, tax included. That gives you 400 minutes, however they usually triple the minutes. The Android phones are limited to your Zip code. The best phone I can get for my Zip code is the LG Optimus Dynamic II(Android) that cells for 149.99. There are other picks but the Samsung is no longer available for my area. You have to remember though that when your minutes get low you have to purchase a card with more minutes or you lose your service. TracFone lets you know when you need more minutes. Hope this helps jerry.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5, Tracfone it uses Verizon. I love this Phone and the Camera is 16 MP. I buy a card once a year for 99.00 and it triples my minutes. If you don't use them all, they keep adding on. This phone does everything. I can even turn my TV on and off with it. I hope this helps. Here's a couple pictures I took Sat Night of my buddy's 1934 ford.

Not sure what you consider less expensive. My wife and I at one time had Straight Talk plans. You can get unlimited Talk, text, data for 45 dollars a month. Automatic renewal of your card if you want etc. The provider was Verizon. Good coverage in most places. Walmart sells the plans. Here is a link for more information. http://sale.straighttalk.com/?utm_source=IMM&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=DR&utm_content=&utm_term={keyword}

I have a Galaxy S5, but I didn't know I could "bring my own phone." That would be ideal.

Check out BYOP Tracfone, They Just started this a while ago. If you bring a smart phone, each card you buy triples your Minutes, and text. You can also keep your number. You will have to buy an activation card at Wallmart or where ever. Price is 28.00, Part of it goes for activation and the rest adds triple minutes and Text. I have been with Tracfone for years, Best kept secret out there. Good luck Let me know what you find. :thumbup: :thumbup: PS we have two phones the wife has a Moto E we pay 200.00 per year.

There is a difference between the minutes you buy and "who is the provider"? Service provider means ATT, verizon etc. So Tracfone is not the PROVIDER. Quite honestly I don't know who my provider is, but when I bought our tracfones several years ago we had bad reception and after talking with tracfone, while on the phone they ran some tests and agreed the reception was minimal and sent us a different simm card for another service provider which drastically improved our service. Been using tracfones for probably 5-6 years and love them. Cost us about $35 a month (two phones) for the minutes & service days we use and prior to that we were paying about $110 a month with two Verizon phones even though we used them only for phone calls... no data use. The Samsung flip phones we are using have been so great that even though I purchased two other phones for use with tracfone over a year ago I have not yet activated them. Very happy with Tracfone.

I've got a TracPhone deal that I got at a Walmart and they call it Straight Talk. But I am sure it is a tracPhone set up. $40.00/month with unlimited everything they got on it. I looked at others such as the Smart Phones and I have no use for them and they are much more expensive. If I want to surf the web I'll do it at home. And if your in a bar for instance, and a question comes up noone knows the answer to there are a dozen (minimum) people there to pull out their expensive Smart Phones.
