Oregon State Police say 13 people were killed and 20 others wounded when a single gunman opened fire on the campus of Umpqua Community College this morning. Several sources, including Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, say the shooter, 20, is one of the dead.
The campus is a "gun-free" zone. College security is unarmed and concealed carry permit holders are barred from carrying firearms on campus.
A school official said the attack occurred at Snyder Hall. The first 911 call came at 10:38 a.m. Oregon State Police say the shooter was engaged by law enforcement who arrived promptly, but it is not known if he was killed by officers or killed himself.
Nearby residents told OregonLive that about 20 ambulances and 75 police cars, including police officials in their private vehicles, responded.
Police said in a release that staff and family of injured were being taken by bus to the Douglas County Fairgrounds to meet family. Emergency personnel are urging the public to avoid the area as traffic could hamper emergency efforts.
The FBI is sending agents and specialty personnel from its offices in Medford, Eugene, Salem and Portland to assist with the active shooter investigation in Roseburg, says agency spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele.
At least 100 officers are reportedly on the scene.

And, one of the most politically liberal, heavily firearm regulated States in the union. BTW, will be traveling to Ontario Oregon tomorrow to get my "enhanced conceal carry permit" for Oregon. That way the hippies in eastern Oregon will be just a little safer for the couple of hours I pass through between Idaho and Washington.

Idaho and Vermont are the most gun friendly states in the union and are the two lowest crime rate states.

Probably would be difficult to establish causation.

It might for you. To those of us who live here it's obvious.

You're a real piece of work!
It's absolute nonsense to compare Vermont or Idaho with Chicago or Detroit so the argument is specious at best.
The fact that you look at this story and immediately talk about getting an enhanced carry permit says more about you than I could possibly say.
But don't worry. Nothing will happen. The President will make a speech. The press will cover the funerals and another organization will be formed.
But don't worry. Nothing will happen.
The NRA and it's supporters who are gun manufacturers will once again pay off their supporters in congress and the senate and in the end, Nothing will happen.
There's something very wrong with this country that it will allow this carnage to go on.
Perhaps a mass shooting at the NRA headquarters will send the message home that we must do something.
But for now, Nothing will happen.
How very sad.

Spoken like a true sheep. But I do agree that it's wrong to encourage murder by rendering the targets helpless.

Police took 20 minutes to show up according to students. Should have some CCW people there who could have mitigated the casualties. Gun control people will never learn. We can here their wailing and gnashing of teeth about evil guns instead of the criminal who was behind it. Obummer should be coming out of sewer anytime to give his rant.

No LALA you're wrong again.
Not spoken like a sheep. Spoken like a realist.
When will you learn that not everyone should have access to a gun?
When will you learn that we do need controls on who gets guns.
Other countries have done it. But we can't? Really?
Enhanced conceal carry allows us to carry a firearm on Idaho college and university campus's. Some of the rural public school districts are training personnel, teachers, janitors, principles etc. tactical firearm use and will have protection on their person because law enforcement is not readily available. We care about our kids and wouldn't consider sending them into a slaughter house like the one in Oregon today.

When will you learn that everyone doesn't give a shit about "controls" laws regarding guns or anything else for that matter?
