Two weeks ago a couple friends and I rode the Great Allegheny Passage trail which runs from Pittsburgh, PA to Cumberland, MD. It was a wonderful experience and we stayed at some great B&Bs along the way.

We encountered some rain which only made the views more dream-like.

Here are some photos to show the beauty along the trail.

Wow! How beautiful! How many miles? My boys are in to biking too. This year they went up into upper Michigan. Wish I was younger!

The ride was about 140 miles for us. It was beautiful, Erv, and the rain made it even nicer. The trail is fairly protected so we weren't drenched and the rain wasn't constant.
Your boys should consider riding this trail. There are campgrounds along the way and plenty of indoor accommodations if they're not campers.
I'm sure you could do it, Erv, if you took your time. Our climb to the Eastern Continental Divide (2,392 ft) was gradual and very doable even with 25 lbs. of gear.

I would love to try it. And I will let the boys know about it. But my Janny can't go that far. She has asthma pretty bad if she does to much.:( I am looking at a battery powered bike for her. We love to ride in the parks we have around us.
My next question.:) How do you get home? :):)

If Janny had a battery-powered bike she could do it. Here's a link to the trail's website: http://www.atatrail.org/
We drove to Cumberland, MD then parked our car in the shuttle's parking lot. Took a shuttle up to the trailhead then rode our bikes back to Cumberland. We split the ride up into four days since my friends were new to multi-day bike touring. Day 1 - 26 miles, Day 2 - 33 miles, Day 3 - 36 miles, Day 4 - 45 miles but 25 of it was downhill. We made plenty of stops for photos, meals, and rest breaks.

That's just awesome, and I bet you had a great time.
I just rode my Trek 3700D around Lake Moultrie day before yesterday (57.2 miles) with most of the ride on the dike and in the woods. A real workout for this 63 yr old guy - hee hee. Tried out the new GoPro Hero 4 and just had a blast, seeing a couple of baldies, gorgeous flowers, and beautiful Lake Moultrie.
Thanks for sharing your ride! Nice!

Sammy, it was a wonderful experience. I'll have to look into the Lake Moultrie ride, sounds like a good one with some miles.

T'was a great trip, indeed.

I'd love to ride the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia one day on a motorbike. The hills look a bit brutal for a loaded bicycle. http://www.cabottrail.travel/

Hi Greg. Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, it was a wonderful ride and the scenery was breathtaking; during most of the ride there was a river on one side of us and a rock face with mosses and grasses on the other.

Any chance you're hosting the week-long photo tour with some UHH members this year or next? I'd like to put that on my agenda.
