The return of Dave

Dave the extra terrestrial has returned!!!
Free stock images of angel castle and of course young Dave. Planet made from a single texture photograph. The rest of it manufactured from recycled items, discarded and retrieved from dumpsters, in the Photoshop workroom located under the stairs at Billyspad. Obviously the result of a troubled mind combined with what he can remember from a misspent youth.

Colour version posted in the PP section

Nice. Has to be viewed in download to appreciate the details. I also looked at your color version. I really liked the way you have background information coming through the very luminous wings of your subject. A top notch composite. You seem to be using textures to great advantage. Food for thought. Well done.

Got inspired to really get into texture use by posts on here which might only show the texture but a little practice and one knows what can be done with them and Blend modes.
If your sorta OK with Photoshop and layers its not difficult and great fun.
Glad you liked it Erich and greetings from the South Seas

Hi Billy. I think I prefer the b/w. It seems to hang together better for me. The colour is striking but it seems to be more about the colour than the image. Probably get in trouble for stating this opinion but unless colour is subservient to the image it shouldn't be used. I feel this is a case in point. The image itself in b/w sticks in my psyche whereas the colours of the colour rendition are what stick with me. This is detrimental to the meaning of the image.

You have titled "The Return of Dave" which I have no way of deciphering. You have in affect given a non directive title and left the meaning to me, the viewer, on various levels of discovery or meaning. A more descriptive title would have ruined my pleasure in contemplating any meaning within this image.

It's not important to me what you think the image means. The overriding concern, in my opinion, is what viewers may bring to the image by active participation in it.

Do I like the image? You bet your socks, I do!

Dave is the owl Jim. Its his second appearance in a composite I have put together. You must have missed the first one.

I agree with you about the colour vs black and white and was quite amazed myself exactly how different two identical images can become by removing the coloring.
I like both,I would not post something I have made and do not personally like, but as you so rightly say the black and white would probably require the viewer to investigate further into the image where the color version seems on reflection just to make folks go Wow. As you rightly point out its difficult to get past the color.
I recognize you are a fan of black and white Jim.

Glad you liked it and will email you a link to the photo where Dave made his first appearance.

While I cannot even begin to think about being an active participant in the meaning of this photo which Mr. H so rightly brings to light……..as I haven’t the proper attire to wear while sipping champaign and viewing under the lights, I can state that I find no flaws in either of the renditions. Your work is always presented technically finalized. I would like to know why the colour seems soft compared to the B&W, is it just contrast my friend?

Maybe a little contrast addition in Siver Efex my man. The hack with the Nikon has no other ideas on why that should be
