I am considering the purchase of this lens instead of purchasing a Nikon 24-120. Other than the reach difference, do anyone have any comments on the Sigma lens, its quality, and its performance? I am just interested in owning a Sigma Art series lens. Thanks. Chris.

The problem will be actually getting your hands on one of them. Sigma has quit manufacturing them as they really don't meet their definition of their "Art" class of lenses. Its likely to be re-issued as a "Contemporary" lens.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking something was wrong with this picture as I've seen very little about this lens. Considering the 50 Art, but I already own a Nikon 50/1.4G and I'm not sure what I would get for the money as I use this mostly for Basketball. For portraits, I much prefer my Nikon 85/1.4G. I don't think it's capable of producing a bad portrait. Any additional advice?

Where did you get that from?
I have this lens and it is excellent. Worth every cent. Compare it to the Nikon. No contest.

There is always the option of a Nikkor 28-105 D lens. It is a great lens and available used at bargain prices.

I recently bought this lens to use on my D750 & love it. I used to borrow my friends Nikon 24-120mm before I bought the Sigma, so I can comment on both. The Nikon has a fraction more reach, but apart from that, the Sigma is the better lens, IMO. I highly recommend it. Earl.

Well shoot, what if you want to shoot something that's not art?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. This is just Sigmas ways of designating their lens line. People go way overboard on the simple things in life. Look at the Big picture , their new stuff is awesome. I have an older Sigma 8-16 and it rocks the colors . Then I have 3 other Sigmas 18-35 art 50 art and the 180 f/2.8 os hsm. They all take phenomenal pictures. The 50 art focuses very slow so fast moving stuff I miss focus with it. The 18-35 I had to use the USB DOCK to calibrate it and it took me two days to accomplish that. Now that lens nails the shots. The 180 macro is the most versatile lens I have. And it produces the best portraits , I love it. Want a great lens check it out. It's not an art lens but it could be called that. For a macro it focuses fast too.. I shoot flowers to football with it.

I agree. The Nikon 28-105 is a very good lens. Have you considered the Tamron SP 24-135?

I agree although the 28-105 D has variable apertures which the ART lens does not. When it comes to price I am going to say that the Nikon 28-105 is a bargain.
I have not seen pictures of the Sigma 25-105 ART but I have seen pictures from the Nikon 24-120 and the Canon 24-105 and they are excellent in quality.

I found the first two versions of the Nikon 24-120 to be less than satisfactory in image quality. I've heard that the latest version is a little better, but nothing special.

Or you could get a Nikon 18-105mm VR ED IF lens. I have one and it produces very sharp images. I probably use this more than any of my other Nikon lenses. It's a great walk around lens.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. This is just Si... (show quote)

Hi O2Ra. Is your 18-35 the new f1.8? I see it's 500 bucks cheaper that the f2.8 Tamron with VC. I don't think the VC would be that much more valuable, especially since it's so wide angle. I'm just sure I'm suffering from the GAS associated with the last ad. I read on this lens.

As the OP here, I appreciate everyone's comments. To repeat, briefly, I am considering either a Nikon 24-120/4 OR the Sigma 24-105/4, perhaps neither. The difference in price is NOT a consideration, I just may purchase one of these two lenses. I am not interested in any other brands or any other lens options. I am looking for comments from owners of the Sigma lens to see how satisfied they are with it. As MT Shooter pointed out, I may not be able to purchase a Sigma as it is being discontinued and seems to be widely out-of-stock at the moment. Again, thanks for all the comments. Chris.
