Welcome to HDR! Most of us have used the trial & error method but there are lots of books available, and you can search this forum for info and links.

The HDR Book by Rafael Concepcion is the best you can get.
And no, there is no hdr in pse11.

I believe that there is a HDR photo-merge capability in PSE 11, here is one link I found with instructions to follow.

Andrew is correct there is an HDR photomerge capability in PSE11 but what is missing is the ability to tonemap the result. That being the case you are better to download a trial version of Photomatix and experiment with it. The trial version is fully functional but there is a watermark on the final product. But its the best way to learn. And if you like the results the cost of a licence really is not very much. And if you are keen to learn this is the place. Just ask questions and someone will answer. And post your results here, feedback teaches you very quickly.

Wow! i didn't know you could do HDR in PSE 11. I tried it and it works; but not as well as Photomatix Pro.
