Modern world conveniences that aren't so convenient. Read the comments as well as the article.

Thanks for this. I've shared in on my FB page. I know some flight attendants that like to visit this area a lot. I thought I'd warn them and my other friends too.

I put this up because I thought speed was important. Then I read the first part from the link at the end of the article as well as comments very much worth reading.

Crazy! We've only done Mexico by cruise ship.....ATMs are fine there and then we don't have to worry about those on the outside.

Hard learned lessons from international travel: use only ATMs that are on or in a bank; that way you can be relatively confident that the ATM is free of skimmer devices. Another lesson: use the bank ATM only on days when the bank is open; that way, if the ATM swallows your card, you can go inside, show your passport, and get it back (this happened to me in small-town France a few years back - unfortunately on a Friday evening).

Just stay home for great opportunities to be scammed. I have been called 7 times over the past 4 days, and threatened with a law suit and jail if I do not immediately push 1 or return a call to the IRS within 24 hours. Of course since I pay all of my taxes and report accurately and I know the IRS does not use telephone threats I knew it was a scam.

I called back an hour later after dialing *67 to block my number and some guy answered as Vincent B. Sloan, no switchboard, no nothing, no reference case ##. After listening to his demand and instructions for sending him $558 I called him every scum bag vile name I could think of and listened for his reaction. There was none. Finally I hung up.

I then called the FBI who told me there had been many victims of that scam and the agent directed me to a web page full of complaints etc. I checked it out. It's amazing how many people will fall for such crap.

Similar to this are Indian scammers that claim to be from tech support claiming your PC is sending them error messages, and of course they offer to fix it for a fee. Once you grant them access to your PC they will steal everything on it, then demand more money. If you refuse they will wipe your machine clean. Ever hear of the command "Format c:"? I have led these jerks on for a while and then called them every name in the book.
